How Could They

how dare they
how dare they make me
a slave
how dare they

one hand
one balled up hand
to make one balled up fist

how could they
how could they make me a slave
how could i make a plea
a plea for clemency

hand on ground
fingers clutching soil
knees bend on dirt

------------------------------------------------------------------
how dare they
how dare they supremely restrain me
assemble my broken heart in to slavery
how dare they

one feeble exhausted hand
one balled up fatigued hand
to make one balled up, belligerent fist

how could they
how could they make me a slave
how could i make a plea
a plea for clemency

hand on ground
fingers clutching soil
knees bend on dirt

This is SO powerful Verlecia, incredible. I can see this happen, and feel the humiliation and outrage. Well done!

this a good poem. the rhythm is powerful, the ‘ how dare they‘ is haunting.
