Holding Abigail In My Arms

holding Abigail in my arms
my cat is treated to lessons mother
passed on to me
bury your face in her neck
and gently rub your cheek
she will arch backward into the nuzzling
chew softly on her ears
the more you pay attention
to the back of the head
the brain will fire neuropathways
and the memories of mother
will come thru
she pulls back into that look
where we take turns rubbing cheeks
cheek to cheek we declare we belong
to one another
Anatole France noted until you
have loved an animal
you are only a half soul
sometimes my nights need a bit more
to settle the day's dust
the little bottle in the bathroom
comes in the same pink box
i remember wrapping at Christmas
the joy in that present for her
and that is all it takes
full concentration for the night's list
of those in my deepest prayer
one little spray from that bottle
and i am in church next to my mother
lost in the wonderment of a congregation
devoted to the good of mankind
united in prayer and song
such are the neuropathways of mother
God's creatures are blessed as such
mother and a single spray
of White Shoulders

For Abby read Mabel - our cat. Thing is she tends to rub her cheeks on me at 450 in the morning every day..and she's very rarely earlier or later. I like your message that the ability to love extends to animals. I believe we are a source of security and comfort to cats..and vice versa. Lovely read Timothy. Cheers - Gary

Tim, White Shoulders was my mom in law’s scent. Anyway, this made me cry for many reasons! My little girl pup Gigi i’ve taught the word “nuzzie,” whereupon she (mini black long hair doxie terrier mix) walks up my chest, plops down, & we rub noses. She learned this from exchanging affection not treats. Lately read on Soup there was a prof claiming only seem to show love(to profit) im still upset to read that. Well, Love has inherent itself as a profit? Aaarrgh GREAT POEM. FAV,

Sally....Abby rubs her cheeks against mine is about a cat leaving their scent on you to claim you as their territory, that is a form of love...and you are quite correct.....Gigi gets it...when Abby crawls into my arms it is not for a treat it is for attention, she has a bowl with treats any time she wants one...Descartes is a great example of educated dolts, explore his vivisection record that animals do not feel pain only because animals are biological machines even if they seem to scream in agony....no the ability to love is not only a gift God gave humans....love is the profit we reap, thanks for your sharing inner feelings...they are admirable
