Drawing

Lines so smooth, so straight
charcoaled so dark,
waiting for more
waiting,
for a guiding hand
to sense the way
across the emptiness

the amateur chalk,
wilfully trying to
impress
upon the page;
darkness, lightness,
an individual
movement, to express
the picture at hand

lines, are created like
divisions pushing on,
wanting desperately
to just get it right;
erase that shade
straighten that point,
to conquer, to quell
a restless spirit

an inner spirit
that needs to deviate,
to deepen the gap
between conscious
and unconscious, and
the insatiable need
just to focus on the task
at hand

and not on a distracting
need to please!
