Birds

the canary's sharp, pointed beak
scratched the earth and the worm tried to run away
desperate for the micro tunnels that she had dug
in search of a salvation that never came
the beak speared the tender meat
and the canary took a victorious flight
back to the nest
where among the three freshly hatched eggshells
little naked creatures fight
nervously wait for the first feeding
in five months they will sing themselves to exhaustion
attracting partners
to perpetuate the living wheel of creation

The circle of life so vividly portrayed, Marco. Nice job. Fine writing.

There's a tree here in the yard and a nest shelters baby birds...
