A Morning Walk

This morning I went walking
and talking to myself
seeking solitude, peace
and an inner plenum full of wealth

Leaving the familiar surroundings
of my own house behind
I managed to set a steady pace
that helped open up my mind

Walking along familiar roads
leading back to my front door
revealing what I see every day
but had never seen before

A mother with her tiny tots
taking pictures of them all
laughing, playing, growing younger
as if she herself were still so small

And passing by a stranger
I had never known 'till then
who smiled and waved hello to me
as if we were the best of friends

A barking Pomeranian and meowing calico cat
and black crows cawing out, "I wonder who's that?"
Flags waving wistfully in the warm summer wind
causing me to question the beginning of our end

Then passing storefront windows
filled with mannequins standing tall
dressed in flowery skirts, pants and shirts
as if preparing for a ball

Cars passing by and planes that fly
high in the atmosphere
leaving contrails and rooster tails
like ghosts, until they slowly disappear

And the distant sound of a siren, wailing
an ambulance I believe
reminding me each moment lived
is one closer to eternity

While this early morning ambling measured
only minutes more or less
tomorrow I'll stride out again
hoping inner wealth and I will coalesce

Hi Michael, thanks for dropping in and commenting. My computer has been out for repairs for several weeks now and still not back yet. Also, I've been trying to catch up on some reading, house repairs and chores around the house. Life is hectic but doing my best and will post a new poem (Lost in the Woods) shortly. Thanks again, Terry

A mindful walk is always good for the soul, my friend. Your poem today was an easy read, it flowed smoothly and was well rhymed. Live is all around us if we just slow down and pay attention. Have a great weekend, Terry. Bill

Thank you, Bill. It's always a sincere pleasure hearing from you and reading your uplifting reviews of my poetry. Life has thrown me a few curve balls lately, so my "PSoup" time has been temporarily curtailed. Please pardon my recent absence and lack of participation but looking forward to reading (yours & others) as well as writing and posting again, hopefully later today. Thanks again, Terry
