Biography

I live close to a ridge at the top of the World Heritage Blue Mountains of Australia. I share this space with a diverse array of native animals, birds, reptiles and insects. They provide me with inspiration and wonder. My work is dedicated to preserving the natural environment and fighting for social justice. I live on the unceded lands of the Durug and Gundungurra people. Their respect for the land is a model for all of us and highlights our responsibility to the planet and its future health. I come from a background in the visual arts; sculpture, ceramics, glass and textiles, printmaking and photography. I have trained as a goldsmith, specialising in design. For a number of years, my geologist husband and I ran a gallery in Sydney in Rozelle then Drummoyne. Poetry has always been a passion, now I paint with words. Today I call myself a colourist and an imagist, delighting in close attention to the details of the world about me. My sensory images are informed by a love of history, philosophy, science and concern for all life. I have contributed to many poetry collections internationally and am the recipient of a Varuna Writer's Space Fellowship. In addition, my poetry draws on the lived experience of PTSD, Bi Polar and Autism. I believe this allows me insights into and a sympathy for the difficulties of others. My poetry collections include three family histories. The first, ‘The Sail Weaver’(pocket poets), is about bonded migrants from the tiny treeless Hebridean Isle of Tiree, to the timber forests of the Hunter Valley of Australia. ‘A Larrikin in the Blood’, is the story of a convict, first settler, to Van Diemen's Land, as told by the six women in his life. The third story is ‘Kastellorizo, Walls in the Sun’, a homage to my Greek grandfather and the island of his birth. It is a small rocky outcrop, plundered by many nations but fiercely proud of its Greek culture. My other poetry collections, published by Ginninderra Press; Threading Raindrops The Eucalypt Distillery These Weighted Months The Symbiotic Web Aquamarine The Passage of Bees To the Dam,(Pocket Poets) Curdled Milk,(Pocket Poets)
