I Wish I Were Beautiful

Oh, to be beautiful...
The drop dead gorgeous type
the let me revel in the hype
that follows my cat walk stride kind

Oh, to be beautiful...
the beauty pageant kind
the stop in your tracks and stare
as I throw back my raven hair
my hips swaying here and there
the too good to be true kind

Oh, to be beautiful...
airport beauty section poster kind
the stare if you dare kind
the I'll steal your soul and make you crave kind

I want to be beautiful
I want to know what it's like
to be adored with delight
Oh, oh how I would revel
in that light

But..
I'm not beautiful
I guess I have my little share,
and I really shouldn't care
about how I look or what I wear

BEWARE!!!

My poetry can cast a spell
rosy word tinted illusions that make you see
a beautiful enchantress in me

Finally.... my wish come true
I'm infinitely beautiful
beautiful to you.

Very few people can measure up to modern standards of drop dead beauty. Especially the older we get. But your inner beauty far outweighs that. Also you are outwardly very attractive . Your ending here is just perfect

I have always found you beautiful and quite obviously have others. But I understand what you are saying here. I always had issues with my figure and not being built to have a wasp waistline. Great poem

I too have always felt inferior for weight. It's something that will always be part of feminine culture for those of us not born to be model thin

Thanks, Andrea. Very kind of you. I have low self esteem due to my weight. Just want to know what it would be like to be so beautiful. One can wish and dream. Big hugs

Thanks, Craig. True. But one sometimes wishes for human compliments as well. Hope all is well. Blessings

Dear Eileen, I am struck by the soul-baring vulnerability, the yearning for physical beauty while finding your way to the self-empowering discovery of being a "beautiful enchantress" whose "poetry can cast a spell". I adore the turn, the change of tone at "BEWARE!!!" - so powerful and sets up your grand finale with a brilliant realization. I especially enjoyed "as I throw back my raven hair/my hips swaying here and there" - vibrant, vivid femininity! Superb and thought-provoking poetry! Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Thanks, Susan. I know it's very superficial of me, but I felt like letting it out. Your comment is very well received as you give an analysis of the poem itself. I'm grateful. Blessings

Wanting to look beautiful/attractive is probably every woman's wish; it helps with self-confidence, especially each time they look in a mirror! I am glad that we met face to face, and the "enchantress " in you definitely had her say :) ~ Big hugs my friend // paul

I'll never forget those days in Malta. They are engraved in my heart. Thank you for the memories. Poetry is a great outlet. It let's me dream and get out of the depression I find myself in. Blessings

Oh if you were a gracious Siamese cat :) My, my.And they say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Pity I don't have a real picture of you :) I don't trust avatars. Alas at my old age I stopped thinking of beautiful women. Might get a heart attack -)

You make me smile. Avatars are deceptive if you have filters on. I have low self confidence due to my weight. That's why I'd love to know what it's like to have it all... brains; personality, and a knock out figure. But I'll never know. When I was younger...I was considered sexy. This by the admission of a friend in a game of truth or dare who said all the guys in his friends group thought so. I was happy to know that as he's very popular with the ladies. Others have said the same. Though i still get the compliment or two... those days are gone. No heart attacks on account of me ;)

How the world goes round & round. I am so, so happy to see lines from you again. I relate to this, particularly as a Man, in that disconnect...hoping to be interesting enough to be noticed, valued & ultimately respected. It is incredibly refreshing to read your work again.

Thanks, Laura. I know that. Some people seem to have it all: inner and outer beauty. Wish I were one of them. ;) Have a lovely day.

I have always admired beauty. I know when God created Adam and Even, they must have been stunning. God is the author of beauty. Yes, we are told that our beauty should be the inner one. I am fully cognizant of that, but oh....How I wish I had both! ;) Can't blame a girl for wishing. That ending was just to make myself feel better. It's true that when we get to know someone and appreciate them, they look beautiful to us. Thanks for stopping by.
