Fewer Neutrons

1 am
Stars out; twin bed
       walked Gemini
close as space ceiling
on her bones —
with scars tight,
blood liquid fine —
crust unmissed,
her twist,
its dark up,
      no shadow, just
holes beneath the sky...

-Note: If you're trying to understand this,
            please read about neutron stars.

This is dense and devastating in the best way--like grief folded into the physics of stars. "No shadow, just holes beneath the sky" is such a chilling line. You’ve turned collapse into poetry, and it’s beautiful.

A space ceiling... how cool is that? I don't know anything about neutron stars. I'll check it out to better understand your poem.

Thank you for the note. I was able to read it in a different way. We don’t have to understand everything but can certainly feel it. Blessings, Paige and hugs to a great PS friend!

I enjoy this tricky poem of a neutron star. Poems of science entertain and educate. You've done both well.

Dear Paige, I love this, and it is funny because when I first saw the title, I thought neurons, and then I read your well-inked poem and said to myself, "no, neutrons". First let me say Wow! so rich in astronomical imagery, blending it with intimate, bodily references. I love how it shows both cosmic and personal elements, creating a sense of both vastness and claustrophobia. I just love the final lines, "no shadow, just / holes beneath the sky," which evoke a sense of emptiness or loss, reflecting the emotional state. Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Dear Ink, I see stars sometimes some places...but I love them. It's a comforting feeling when I'm alone. Hope they can comfort you as well -

Craig would love this. Crisp, bare, no fluff. Now on to read on neutrons
