Desert Love

I met you in a season,
as I recall, it was cool;
we dated through the warmth,
not the hottest of the 4 --
Falls I can’t recall...cactus
have no leaves; and summer-heat
bakes away all thought --

Yet, deserts, though little water,
have an abundance of romance:
wet kisses between the barbs. I met
you in a season, 2 stray saguaros
locking arms.

Well yes Joe Dimino..The heat here is intense.' The only way to get clear headed..Is to apply more...And dream sweetly thereafter,..This prickles my senses; and reminds me of the Power of desiire, and skys of fire.' The crystal River of inspiration wind around the Saugaros That pointedly stamd signposts in this scene You let us visit, Arizona man.'

What the heck; for some of us, it seems paradise. I love living here. If I want cool, the mountains are 2 hours away by car. Skiing, all those cold goodies in the winter season. But 35 years, here in the valley, I have never once, except for business, gone north during the winter. Mountains are glorious also the summer months. Made many hiking excursions when I was younger.

Oh, the desert can be beautiful, especially sunset, the saguaros are beautiful too! I love your poem Joe! My husband and I have had many beautiful years dwelling in the Southwest and are very acclimated to the dry heat. The sweetness of your poem brings back many memories.

Love the desert, BJ; and like you say, have become well acclimated to the dry heat. And our fiery sunsets!~ don't know that there is anything more stunningly beautiful! Thank you, BJ. Blessings.

what beautiful imagery, Joe! I especially liked 2 stray saguaros locking arms. I lived in the desert southwest for many years. I agree. Summer heat in the desert bakes away all thought (and reason). Well done...am faving Sara

Hi Sara; thank you. I truly do love the desert...one just needs to keep well hydrated...be sensible. In my old age now, my bones react better to heat than cold -- but in the real hot days of summer I hibernate inside until the cooler evening. Stay in town mostly, like most everyone else. Really difficult to find true desert anymore. The valley has become very populated.

Can be. I've come upon rattlers, being careless been bit by scorpions, also almost run-over at a crosswalk, by a reckless driver -- I hear you. High Desert in bloom is spectacular. Love can be dangerous...in or out of a desert.
