A Pondering Poet~

Echoing Resolve

____________________________

Easy river run
down vast beauty light
in morning dawn
crest before my eyes

For autumn rain has gone
sparking light of silver grace
now lay peaceful strokes
on hillside of new day

Each thought still remain
in splashed hues of poetic verse
a quenching bath of love
upon soft sky of birth

Perhaps the best advice for the broken monoku form is the classic advice from the Imagists of old. Write ,read, prune.Have a good creative weekend one & all.Rgds Brian

For any poet here who wants to understand the background to haiku from a western perspective I suggest 'THE JAPANESE HAIKU' its essential,Nature,History and Possibilities with selected examples by the American poet/writer Kennetth Yasuda. It will make an excellent Christmas present and help not only would-be haku-ists but imagist as well.Rgds Brian

Debbie the imagist concept 'Show, don't tell-' is best understood by reading the haiku masters themselves_For anyone interested therein I suggest 'Classic Haiku' ed Tom Lowenstein.Rgds Brian

Of course Haiku can have humour as well..take this example from Shiki...I climbed into bed/and then take off my socks off/How lazy I'm getting...My broken monoku can have variations too eg sequenced/ekphrasis/quaternion/titled(to create a 3rd line context) and epigrammatic.See my kindle ebook mentioned below.Rgds Brian

Debbie ,asto enigma the haiku of the masters (in translation at any rate) ie Buson,Basho,Shiki et al are often enigmatic as well as always imagist.Take this example thereof frpm Buson...A paper kite flies/just where it was/in yesterday's sky.

Debbie, the broken monoku ,in its purest form, is indeed a haiku.( two lines broken at the caesura.Rgds Brian

The crystalline was created by the American poet Denis M Garrison (who also created the delightful cinqku). The crystalline is A two line image poem, often with a title, in which euphony is the key factor. Each line may have 8 or 9 syllables to make a total of seventeen. For further info thereon see the many examples in my ebook 'Two Liners' and of course amongst my poems thereon, again from 2007 onwards.

Just to say I created the broken monoku form here in 2007 and its essence is -A one line haiku known as a monoku (was the original form of haiku, written vertically) my version is a variation thereof a broken line monoku.A Monoku is a senryu/haiku with a slight enigmatic flavour. In its imagist form it has no title, it is a line of verse broken into two at the caesura(the natural breathing space or pause in a line of verse, usually near the middle.A key concept of a broken monoku is ' it shows but does not to tell' –a key element to all imagist poetic forms.(please see my kindle ebook-Broken Monoku -a definitive guide- for my further variations to the broken monoku form.

okies its still a haiku then and thus not subjective in nature- please define 'slight enigmatic flavour' (showing means OBJECTIVE sensory - telling means putting your own 'take' 'sin' etc on the observation ie SHOWING making it subjective then not a haiku at its core)

Thanks Brian......

I'm confused a monoku is a haiku in 1 one - personification is not used in haiku because it is a subjective-individual-fanciful interpretation & bringing 1 line in 2 would be BI?
