Necropolis: Chapter I Part IX Arrival

Nero jumps awake as the chop of the outgoing tide roughens as the seaplane approaches, “ Ladies and gentlemen, as you can see coming out the fog ahead of the majestic tomb towers of New Golgothica. We hope your stay will be a pleasant one. Thank you again fly-er- sailing the friendly seas of United Trans-Alantitc Hydro. The Consortium welcomes you!” The Co-Captian cuts off. Nero’s head tilts to the left, he cracks his eyes to see a sight that both freezes his blood and trills him in a way he has never felt before. It’s like a gigantic black monolithic leviathan backlighted with a strange glowing eldritch fire. Fangs of huge buildings are larger and taller than any building in Neo-New York and that included the New World Trade Center III. But none could compete with it, it in itself was unique, it was a great dead beast, adrift in the oceans of time and mortality. It's enormous, ancient architecture that was eclectic as it was gloomy. Its building designs ranged from the major architectural movement of the last two hundred years to, what Nero could understand, as classic tombstones and maybe Mausoleum design? From this distance, it gave off a wave of foreboding and doom. The largest cemetery he has ever seen! The very essence of death. The chill runs within his bones. He thinks, ‘what have I gotten myself into..."

He could only imagine what lay ahead of him. A city dedicated to the preservation of the “Neo-Judeo Christian” worlds dead, all dedicated to one faith, the toleration theocracies were the one and only Church rules all nations as a shadow. Serving blindly with brutality and arrogant god. But, Nero was not the one to think about gods or demons, in time he realized how important that idea was on this island of the dead. This was going to be his new home, his new beat, a precinct to be part of the N.G.N.P (New Golgothica National Police)with new faces to get to know. NEw politics to learn. Who to trust and keep at a distance.

AS the hydro-plane pulls closer, the details come into focus, Nero’s aw of the buildings is without measure, his right brain kicks in, and he realized that the skyscrapers reaching into the clouds are without windows, some have windows but are false and decorative, while some look like they could be transplanted from Neo-New York. Dark glass towers reach into the foggy gray atmosphere. A gray mist pelts the plane’s cabin VR window and is swept away. Nero firsts feel the powering down of the boat's engines and the marked decrease feeling of momentum. Much like that feeling of a plane in approach to landing.

As the building grows in size, he is overcome with the feeling of doom...
