Introduction: The following shorts were composed as contributions to a writing competition. Unfortunately, due to some confusion over dates and themes these were deemed ineligible. I present them here as little more than curiosities :-)
The theme, by-the-way, was 'full-time support'
All Our Days
She doesn’t remember much anymore, barely recognises me. She’s often sad but brightens when Sara brings the grandchildren. Every day is different yet the same; moments of hope interspersed with heartbreak. I vowed fifty-four years ago to love her in sickness and health. She will always have my full support.

Totter
Using the sofa to pull herself from sitting to upright, Jessica stands on wobbly, chubby legs. She gurgles delightedly as she sidles along the cushion, reaching the armrest. She turns, manages two unassisted steps, before collapsing again. She refuses to allow me to support her efforts at finding her independence.

Promotion/Relegation
It was always going to be tough: promotion to the Premier League was a huge achievement for a small club on a tiny budget. It was a big ask to stay up there, which ultimately failed. My club will always have my full support, though, because that’s what loyal fans do.
