That's just one list though. We have multiple "new poem" lists that don't move poems off the list as fast.

After reading Richard's blog, I concur that the shelf life of a newly submitted poem is lessened because of the higher volume of poems/poets on this site than ever before. True. One solution is to allow members to purchase tokens that allow them to resubmit their poems-and to allow fellow members to purchase tokens to resubmit poems of a deserving poet's poem that they like. Have a separate page for resubmitted poems (exclusive) would be a win for everyone imo.

Hi Connie, Thank you for commenting, interesting idea, I hope a solution will be forthcoming that everyone can live with. Richard

Hi Richard. I wonder whether TPS could set a reasonable limit (like it is with sharing posts on social media). It might be an idea to have the poets' poems automatically disappear off the New Poems list if they exceed the said limit. Those who feel the need to habitually post poems in large quantities (mental health issues is not the only reason - I suspect there are others) will only shoot themselves in the foot if their motivation to do so is to get noticed. It will also go a long way towards curing spam - nonsensical content or repeatedly post the same poems over a period of time. As for posting poems with the aim to immortality, I thought that poets' accounts disappeared after inactivity

My door is always open, Richard. I enjoy a healthy debate: "Attack the idea and not the person." (The motto of my debating society at college).

Hi Suzette, thanks for these comments, I too have been thinking along similar lines, they are something of a jumble at the moment, a little time in weighing up is required. I agree with what you’re saying, though I feel some space will not go amiss while things calm from yesterday. Is it ok to throw some ideas your way in the near future. Richard

As for quality over quantity, that is perhaps subjective. If I find a poet I like, I am often disappointed that they didn't post more poems in a specific poetic form I am interested in. I wonder how many of our poems will stand the test of time whereby AI would be called upon to create a poem in the style of (insert our name) ...

Leaving your poems as a form of legacy might not serve the intended purpose, especially if you are not using your real name. :) Try and substitute a volume of your poems for the expected £50 Christmas present, and see your otherwise loving family member's reaction. TPS do ask us not to use this site as the only record of our work, or have I misunderstood...?

Thank you, Richard. I disagreed with others stating it was due too long titles. Ha the "Categories" are wider, longer. Now I have to turn my phone to see the whole page! These things matter! Administration reinstated the 10 rule. My experience with that was going back to check for replies, I'd get lost, which poem was it again? It made me stop commenting to those poets with too many all together, chasing the poems. I think of it as quality over quantity as well. Wish they'd fix it back. I enjoyed your study, Genius. Most vote thru email...quietly. Because 1 or 2 complain constantly, admin is messing with them lol. It sends an unnerving vibe, highjacking the Soup as they do!

@ Dearest Richard, when it comes to posting your poems, although you may be a dabbler you have every right to make your case. BTW you've been here since 2013. An elder statesman should be respected, my God! This case is reopened ;)

Agree with DD and maybe consideration for this: How about if the links “Poems - New (All)” and “Poems - New (PM)” take you instead to the “only ONE new poem for each poet” page directly? Your choice then to click a link away from that page to “all new poems” While there is a Top 100 for most poems list there will always be frustrations about it. The 10 or however many poems per day allowed will still be up but not on the main new poems page. Cheers - Gary

TOM LEAVE THIS LADY ALONE!! You run about flirting with all the gals while dumping on others---it is so tedious!

the voice of common sense and practicality, with a dash of consideration for others thrown in for good measure :) 'poem dumping' is like turning up at a party and eating all the food, leaving none for anyone else...expressing a viewpoint is not tantamount to complaining

I suggest backing away from this war of words. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and nothing is going to get resolved this way. I have family visiting today and they are more important to me than PS. Take off the boxing gloves, all of you, and have a happy Sunday. The peace on this site will not be accomplished this way. If you advocate it, show it.

Yes at Andrea’s suggestion, I advocated 2 to 3 at most but the compromise is five, for now. I’m still smiling Tommy, thanks

admin say 40000 poets registered but many are not active on the site and I see that it was only about 9 of you who commented from on the' proposed changes ' blog which a handful of us were blocked from even commenting on. (unblocked so we could comment but no one rose to the bait) so bearing in mind you are not even active on the site your case for 5 a day does not sit well with me

Nicely stated, Jan, especially your last point. TPS has corrected the title line length, and it's already making the needed correction with the issue.

we should be embracing the creativity of poets it is a poetry site after all, there are people who post lots of poems as it is their way of coping with mental health issues, there are people who are ill and leaving their poems as a legacy to their children and there are poets who god forbid - they enjoy writing poetry, so why on earth should their creativity be compromised because of the will of a small minority.

I totally disagree Richard, the reason poems were disappearing wasn't due to apparent poem dumping, it was because of the line length on the new' poems screen which could run to up to 6 lines, now the screen has been amended it is down to 2 lines. It is pretty ironic you bring up this issue as you have posted just 2 poems in 2 years - you are hardly an advocate for preventing regular posters from posting on poetry soup. i rest my case

TPS, No, the reason is as stated above. Why you have chosen to repeat my opening statement (albeit abridged) and consider it a reply I have no idea. I acknowledged that numbers have grown over the years, along with multiple posting and it appears so do you. You need to adapt to the changing situation. Five a day is the compromise of the moment. I predict this will be revisited at some point in the future.

Don't worry, Tommy I'm sure they'll change it back...that member should have taken the time to think it out more thoroughly like RICHARD above has. I think TPS is just messing with that member! lol

TPS you have kindly altered the page width so that poems with long titles are no longer the REAL issue of why poems were disappearing off the new poems list so quickly. and was not those who post ten a day. You may have 4000 'active' members but the 'changes blog 'only resulted in about 10 comments on poem dumping so it is hardly a good percentage who were opposed to the posting of multiple poems . The change to 5 was done covertly based on the opinion of a small minority many of who are not exactly active on the site like the writer of the blog. so I would like to have the 10 a day facility re instated. Perhaps if you had mailed all members asking for their opinion then I could have accepted the change but not as a result of so few, after all it is a poetry site and creativity should be embraced and not stifled on the whim of a few people
