My name is imprinted in every man, woman, and child eyes. I am a flower even in winter. I was born in the City of Belize, but the United States of America is more my home, since I am now seventy, and arrived here at age twenty-two.  Poetry became my loyal friend when I was introduced to a creative writing workshop in Greenwhch Village back in 2003. I am a late bloomer, and a young at heart.  I love to travel; and rely on Nat Geo, the History channel, and Ancient Aliens to alleviate cost.  I enjoy eclectic music, rain, nostalgic howling wind, and thunder without lightening. I love the sacredness of silence of morning, pastel evening skies, silhouette of morning writing, yearly Devotionals, TBN, 3ABN, Songscapes, Tiger calico or Tabby, and the little Wren that saved my life during a tornado. I like to flex and stretch, jog, and bike.  The sound of wind chimes I find nostalgic. I like the innocense and frankness of babies, sweet soul of the elderly, humility and wit of youngsters, and spiritually well rounded students and teachers.

My life in verse commenced at the start of a new year once I left the mountains of Carmel, New York: New leaf of faith / bloomed fresh iris / jumped ship, kicked addiction /

"A Rainbow Flower" , "Seek Ye First", "The Late Blooming Iris", "As I Grow Old",  invites you to see; "I Am Ready" ,"Because I Dared" to participate in my unfolding, before my inner lamp grow dim  My name is Iris, thank you for letting me share at the seat of our table where "Poetry Soupers" dine and strum their story, their songs.

Silent Streams

Blog Posted by Iris E. Sankey- Lewis: 1/31/2016 6:43:00 PM

I saw one, then two, then multiples beyond three streamed in. I vented. No screams. Felt armed with invisible weapons, and waged war on one, holding as hostage my husband. Later I sifted through pages of time and felt remorse.

So I read that Dr. Oz did a segment on "Perimenopausal Rage." I must have had a 'Postperimenopausal Rage.' yesterday.  Ephesians 4:26 says, "In your anger, do not sin. ..." Some folks literally fight with weapons. I sometimes fight with words; and other times, with silence or kindness. I can go to war with you; and still be your friend. Who's suffocating.

My husband arrived home almost 2am from Kia of North Carolina. That was odd. I called numerous times to check on him; even spoke to a Rep holding him hostage for company's benefit. I thought of sending the police for my husband's release. But he went to the Dealer voluntarily. He was to fetch ripe plantains and return home. But NO! he drove our silver Kia to a den of thieves. He was coersed into giving up our 2014 silver Kia for a 2015 chalkcoal colored Kia with monthly payments of $500.00 plus, when what we had was 300.00 monthly.

The following day I suggest we go to take back our silver Kia. It couldn't be done. I was invited to pick a color of my choice. It was not readily available. So I asked our helper, "Since when your place of business stays open beyond midnight?" I couldn't sleep in comfort; the husband out so late, deprived of dinner, a borderlin diabetic. Large helium balloons of varous colors were scattered all about, inside and outside; birth of another business.

I said to the husband, "We're not camping out here as you did last night" Our silver Kia, now in their possession, had our garage remote and other items left inside it, and it was taking forever for those items to be retrieved. Our helper went out for cigarette break. More time passed beyond two hours, as we waited some more. I vented some more. No living walking time bomb here; venting saves sanity, no profanity, Not really.

Following day, storm subside. Reflected on "The Four Agreements", read over two prayers by Don Miguel Ruiz. Warm thoughts serene as morning seeped in.
