MONTH OF MAY

Blog Posted by Marilene Evans: 5/1/2021 9:27:00 AM

This month is Mental Awareness month here, in the United States of America.  Although, the world and the World Health Organization consider October.  This illness occurs throughout the world and affects all socioeconomic types.  Millions of people suffer from it.  This illness is still stigmatized and still considered a taboo.

You may know a family member who is suffering from it, yet the family could be in denial.  You can help or support by encouraging to get help or silently with your prayers.

This month, we also celebrate Mother's Day .....  to all mothers....  Happy Mother's Day!!!  Mothers, ....  love and celebrate you......

I posted poems.....  Mental Illness and Mother

Thank you so much Constance. I appreciate you telling me how meaningful Mother's Day is for you. There are so many factors why people with this illness are not getting help. It is sad.

Hi Marilene, Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. Mental Illness Awareness is a cause close to my heart. I am a child of a person who suffers from a mental illness. In most cases, it is hereditary. When someone that close to you suffers, in a way you suffer too. I wrote about mental illness in my poem “ I Vaguely Remember” Once thanks for penning this blog:-) Alexis

Thank you for your input. It is hard to live with somebody with mental illness because everybody in the family suffers. I'll look for your poem to read it. Thanks for telling me.

Many friends and relatives and acquaintances of mine have a mental illness. To a small degree we all have it, if you include seemingly harmless things such as obsessions or mild addictions. I, for instance, used to bite my nails constantly and I am addicted to movies. but I have a husband with anxiety/depression. I would say at least 1/3 of those I know suffer from either one of those two problems if not something similarly horrible. today's world contributes more and more to mental illness. We may have many comforts these days, but modern day stresses are enormous!

Yes, I am a "re-checker" myself. I have left my purse or keys in places too often, so now I am constantly making sure I have things with me!! And you are right, too many obsessions today are things that did not even exist for us to worry about 50 years ago. Selfies, for example, is very annoying, to see people doing them constantly!!

Thanks for your comments. Totally agree with you that we do have personally disorders, harmless; but irritating. I do have to check if I turn off the coffee pot, the iron or if I lock the door many times before I leave. I do admire the ones who recognize it and do something about it; but I feel bad when I see that the illness affects the person or the family and nothing is done about it and they act like nothing is wrong. Today's obsessions with materialism, power and vanity add and contribute to the problem.
