In Honor of National Poetry Month, 'The Long Trail'

I’m a humble poet, a rambling rhymester, a free verse fanatic, a Haiku sycophant. I love other poets and their scribbles and I worship at the alter of Charles Bukowski. For the month of April I celebrate National Poetry month with some of my own scribbles.

The Long Trail © by Trisha Sugarek

The Circle Heart brand on the wet rump rippled
the horse shivered with exhaustion
the sun lost its battle with night and
dropped behind the far desolate peak

Chaparejos, worn thin and soft fit his legs
As if they had grown there
dusty spurs jangled as he trotted down the main
street of the sleepy town
a saddle that had seen a thousand miles creaked
and complained as he stepped down
the crown of his hat stained with sweat
from the hard ride

Reins dangled in the dirt
the horse hung his head, relieved
to not be moving

A drink or two to wash the Santa Fe Trail dust
from the cowboy’s throat
he stepped up onto the boardwalk........(more) www.writeratplay.com

Trisha, I've always peeked into your blog, website, and writings, like a newborn puppy making discoveries for the first time. At each passage of your journey my tail, so to speak, wags excitedly at the brightness of your lightbulb. I do like what I see, especially coming out of the dark, into a new world. I feel enlightened by your presence here at PS, thank you.

Connie your words were so uplifting and kind. As you know our vocation as writers is a lonely place . you, a piece of paper and a pencil. But very few attaboys and no one praising a good job. So when the rare sweetness of praise comes along it is a special moment. I have a favor to ask. If you have an account with Amazon could you cut and paste your words to me here as a review for one of my books of poetry. If you type in poetry, sugarek in the search box the books should come up. Wishing you the best and please do keep peeking in to what I'm doing. ( 8> D
