I am a retired teacher and actor, originally from Texas. I immigrated to Missouri in 2003 and have been living in Springfield ever since. I enjoy writing very much and tend to focus most of my efforts on poetry. I like to think that my work displays a spectrum of styles and themes that are generously laced with my unique sense of humor, seriousness, nostalgia, reflection, exaggeration, fabrication, inspiration, and imagination.

I have two published volumes of poems that are available on Amazon: Confessions of a Closet Poet, and Pardon My Poetry, Volume One.

Though not intended to change the world in any significant way, I do hope that, in some small way, my verses might help to make it a kinder, friendlier, happier place.

As terrible as the coronavirus pandemic is, it has, at least, and at long last, succeeded in accomplishing one truly good thing, in my opinion. It has managed what throughout human history has never happened, and what was thought by many, myself included, to be humanly impossible. For the first time in our history, all the peoples of the world have been drawn together in one united front to combat and ultimately defeat a common enemy.

Let us fervently hope and pray that after this battle has been won, as it surely ultimately will be, this dark segment of human history will prove to be a better teacher than all the ones that have come before. And let us also hope and pray that once this current crisis is past, this golden opportunity for universal accord and spirit of co-operation will not simply end up on the historical trash heap…along with all the others.

Thanks, Sam. Even though "one world in spirit and love" will probably never be, it still is something to be hoped for. Too bad global catastrophes like viral pandemics have to be a catalyst to inspire that spirit.

One thing for sure it was a worldwide killer and by our country pushing through to get the vaccinations, it has helped the whole world. I feel for people of all countries who lost loved ones due to its killing power. Good topic for a blog. Sara

Yes, visibly noted bearing high ideals based on moral aspects and universal good, albeit said superficial notoriety can also be the impetus of a political ploy by China whose recent ban of only U.S. passenger airlines to China was due to Covid-19 and not the high level of U.S. government officials recent visits to China's arch-rival, Taiwan, whereto the US—retaliated banning Chinese passenger flights based on the latter and not the former. Thus, sadly, in these sordid games, humanity plays between good vs. evil is perpetual. I do not believe our lesson has been learnt as school is still out on that matter, Aloha~William

Their platform wreaked with so many holes Ray Charles could fathom their phantom. Their straw-picking is still early -- you're welcome, Jim, and keep the good thoughts alive, it'll make the re-hatching dead--realized.

Thanks, William. Wouldn't it be great if politics could just keep its ugly head out of human affairs?

It's already in the trash heap Jim and, actually, this type of event has happened before and this virus has been a relative minor blip in comparison.
