Kudos, Thvia! I'm sure more could be done for the mentally handicapped. They have hardly a loud enough voice so they are forgotten until something goes terribly wrong. Wishing you the best of the season... Love, Audrey

I know that where ever you are any disabled person has trouble finding funding from the government. It is like a problem they do not want to deal with. As rich countries we sure do not have programs set up for people in need. It is sad when everything is based on money and not need. God Bless Phyl

Our government used mental patients for experiments on the effect of sexually transmitted diseases. Our forefathers believed what they proposed. Our congress now has no conscience. Mental illness is still on the back burners for help. All our social programs do is brand them. Sad but true, God Bless. Vince

Hi Thvia...my Pop used to say when he couldn't physically help someone..."all I can do is pray, and I'll start right now" and out would come his rosary given to him by a cousin who was a Nun...actually, it seemed to really help!!....we have mental illness in my family, with members living in "Fed. Subsidized" apts...and health-care....Gov. Pawlenty tried to cut funding for this a yr. ago....but the people said "NO!"...I will include you in my prayers....jimbo

Thvia, you made an important statement on mental illness and many people's lack of accessibility to care. I'm glad you have resources at your disposal to help you deal with the agoraphobia. I don't know much about Lupus, but I'm sure it presents many challenges to you. Wishing you peace and blessings this holiday season. Love, Carolyn

I can only imagine how difficult it is to deal with agoraphobia, Thvia and I sure am hoping that therapy works for you-- it definitely can be disheartening sometimes that there is so much lack of support when we most need it (especially from our respective governments) but we can continue to let that flame of hope burn-- my prayers are with you, Thvia-- hugs-- nikko :)

I'm so happy about that, Thvia. CAn you imagine being homeless or without insurance and having no hope at all? It staggers the mind to the think of all the poor souls in that boat. Goodnight. I was just peeking on here one last time tonight before my tv marathon!!

Andrea, I am currently seeking the help I need and I do have insurance to help offset the cost. This past week I found a clinic that specializes in phobias and panic disorders, I have contacted them to set up an appointment and am waiting for a call back, this gives me hope.

Dear, dear Sarah, my heart goes out to you and your grandson. I pray desperately every day for a workable solution, I fear divine intervention may be our only hope. *hugs*

oh, my gosh, Thvia, how sad for you to have that problem. My husband's depression and anxiety also entail a manifestation of what you have, but only when he is exremely stressed. Just admitting it is the first step. Do you have any insurance. I know that does not mean much these days since they rarely cover anything not physical. But you must go online and check out what there is in your area for your prolem. I really hope you find someone out there with solutions for you. So sorry I know so little about solutions. If you have church, definitely go to them too! Luv, Andrea

I agree with you that mental illness is a serious problem and is not properly handled..Those that have worked and then become mentally ill hava a better chance of having what they need..Those like my grandson who has only worked a few times on part-time jobs would only received about six hundred a month..His medication at one time was nearly six hundred a month..They closed mental institutions and people who have problems are sent to nursing homes..But neither were or are good for people with their problems..There needs to be something different done..I don't know how long that I will be able to deal with my grandson due to my age and health...Then what happens to him..Sara

Very moving blog Thvia and one to consider over this holiday week as we celebrate being thankful.. in fact, one of the soap operas, The Bold and the Beautiful is doing a lengthly series dedicated to cleaning up the homeless in California area and spilling it over into other States as well.. many viewers are touched by the outreach as real actors getting involved in the sadness of the homeless folks who just need a chance again...the real actors and writers of this show are paying the homeless people to show they are an important part of society still and no rehearsals or written lines for them... God bless on making us aware Thvia..have a very Happy Thanksgiving my friend..

Oh Andrea, I'm just a frightened, frustrated woman right now. I struggle with physical illness (Lupus) but I struggle even more with agoraphobia. My struggle is so severe I am mostly housebound, only ever leaving out of unavoidable necessity. It has become a quality of life issue for me at this point. I have never openly confessed this before out of humiliation but what the hell, maybe I should just own up to it for the world to know... Right now I just want to benefit from some quality psychiatric care so I can be well and live a more normal life.

ps. I could tell you other horror stories. YOu chose a topic right on my radar since I have family members with problems for which there is never anything worthwhile found to help them. I will rue the day I should ever require big treatment for ANYthing.

It's a hot topic, Thvia, because of the high cost of health care. When someone dear to me had a nervous breakdown, that person could not get treatment because one night would be at least a thousand bucks in the institution. How anyone can get decent help is beyond me. The issue is too complex. Who will fund it all? Already food banks are going broke and there are not enough shelters for the homeless. This may sound weird, but frankly, I think it might be all the junk in our food. It's making half the nation go bonkers. Ruining our chemical balance that keeps us sane. You never hear of so many autistic kids as you see here in the US, or the ones on medication for their overactiveness. Many of us have some kind of mental problem to at least a small degree. I just see no remedy in sight, not as long as greed rules the world.sorry to be so pessimistic. LUv, Andrea
