Hope everyone has a safe 4th of July.

I think this is my least favorite holiday ... some people don't realize that dogs and cats are not the only ones freaked out by fireworks

In fact, in the last week I think another few years have been taken off my life as I sit reading a book and all of a sudden someone decides a bomb would be fun to roll down the street !!

I remember as a child loving the brillance going off in the sky but not liking the noise and ducking my head a lot like I would actually get hit.
Then in later years, I had a close friend who was burned over 1/2 her body when a sparkler caught her organza party dress on fire. She spent the rest of her life having to give herself betadine baths to stave off infections.

Can't we just barbeque and leave the fireworks in stadiums or "controlled" by grownups?

I love July 4th - I am extremely patriotic. It is actually my favorite holiday - I hate christmas, easter and thanksgiving. The day brings back many childhood memories, its viceral for me. I go to the same parade I went to as a child. I hope you find a safe and comfortable way to spend the day.

Hope u have a safe holiday weekend also Sue ..unfortunately there is no warning to prepare us for those cherry bomb explosives that light up the skies on this holiday... soon as it gets dusk around home they start small and end up with the biggest booms anyone ever heard.. the ground actually shakes.. but all the kids just luv it ... maybe a cd player or tv loud with music could dull the impending bang of the fireworks.. just enjoy the visual beauty ... while hearing stays intact.. enjoy Sue.. with luv from the "Sweetheart" in Hawaii...

One of the few good things Mayor Giuliani of NYC did was ban fireworks. While they're not completely gone it's much less than I remember when I was growing up.

Ya when I was a kid my cousin convinced me to light a black cat in my hand-It stung me for weeks, I can only imagine what would have happened if I would have closed my hand!~Tirzah~

I agree that fireworks should be left in the hands of the experts. In California, here in the county where I live, Fireworks are sold as a fund-raiser by the Fire Department...which seems insane to me, considering we are in a state that has wildfires every summer...! What's up with that???!!
