Destiny's Swim

Destiny ran into my room today
"Grandmother, we had such fun
Swimming and playing in the sun"
Her hair a wavy asterisk
Her lips expounding joy
The burnished bronze of her
suntan
The skip in her walk
I relished her swimming pool
fun and her commitment
to laugh
so simply felt
I saw myself in her decades gone
and then I burned her joy in my eyes
and cherished that she came to
me to share her moment's delight

I just adore this poem...with your beautifully descriptive words, I can truly see your granddaughter in my mind. Children are such a joy. My own are nearly 18 and 15 and have become young adults, but every now and then they peek through the window of their childhoods at me. I treasure those moments! My favorite line in this poem is "Her hair a wavy asterisk"...just a wonderful choice of words! ~Juliane

Hi Rhea. Hope you are feeling well. Just wanted to thank you for sponsoring the Where I'm From contest and for the honor of an Honorable Mention. You did a wonderful job of judging. That first poem is totally amazing, and I couldn't agree more with your top three choices. Thank you! Appreciate it so very much. Take care and be well. Love, Shar

The excitement and joy of this moment bounce from the lines. I know the burn--sometimes it makes me cry--with joy and with pain. Well said! Love, Shari

Beautiful Rhea. So full of life and truth. I am trying to renew mine by reading my novels to the nursing homes and retirement centers. I can't afford to publish all three of them and they are a series so I figure I'll let them hear it this way. I will also get paid gas milage for it also. God Bless, Cile

Such a blessing to have your grandchild share her joy with you. Yes, I agree the line "...I burned her joy in my eyes..." is extremely powerful and touching. So extremely well expressed. Love, Shar

This is lovely! So often we repeat our lives or live them for the first time through children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews. The excitement in her voice must have just made your day! A wonderful read. Michael
