Her First Day At School

Fills her with so much wonder.Eyes as big as saucers, taking in all the sights
and sounds,Small table and chairs, glue and paper ,and crayons of every
hue.She holds tightly to my hand; How very small it feels in mine! How soon, how
fast, this tiny girl has grown, overnight it seems! Im more nervous than this small
child walking along side me.So many little bodies eager to be free; away from the
boring world of you and me. Shes no longer papas baby girl, but has advanced to
papas little girl! At the classroom door she pauses for a moment,Then turns and
runs to throw her arms around me. We look softly at each other, then she
touches my face gently,Nini! Please dont cry! dont be afraid! Ill be right here when
you get back! what a funny thing to say for one so young. Its as if she had taken
them right out of my heart, and given them back to me! I smile, and hug her tightly
to me one more time. I watch as she runs back to join her new classmates. One
last wave. Then i turn, and walk away before anyone can see the tears falling
freely down my face...Suddenly i realize,I just lost a piece of my heart, on her first
day at school..
