I Did It My Way
They said a teenage mother will never finish high school,
but I was determined to break that rule.
I worked hard to take care of my son and excel in my classes,
through diaper changes and broken eye glasses.
Sixteen and so many years ahead of me,
I knew who in life I wanted to be.
I had a plan and I was going to so it with all odds against me,
but I was going to prove to them that I would graduate and become who I wanted to be.
On May 2004 I put on my cap and gown and dressed my little boy for my day had came,
I sat there in the crowd and listened for my name.
I walked proudly as he sat there smiling at me,
I reached out and was handed my degree.
I was proud that I didn't listen to what other people had to say,
because at the end of it all I did it my way.
