Journey To Me

I am conceived.
Without caution.
Thru lustful eyes
of a married man
and the outstretched hand
of a woman---
Both seeking their
next injection.

I am born.
Completely unwanted.
Left in my hospital bed
to be cared for by
a stranger's hand.
Never to be comforted by
my mother's breast.

I am addicted.
Afflicted
with drug tainted blood
running untamed thru my veins
consuming my tiny body
so that I am never
at peace.

I am adopted.
Taken in
by a loving family
with children of their own.
Seeking no gain
but offering everything---
leaving nothing to be
desired.

I am lost.
Flummoxed.
Bitten by that need,
need to know my roots,
need to get some answers bug.
Only to be turned away---
again.

I am dying.
Slowly. Painfully.
Like heat from Venus
burning my existence.
Destroying any sense of hope,
desires or pleasures
that I dared
to dream.

I am re-birthed.
Not by chance.
I stand ready.
Alert of my power to change
not only circumstance, but
my life.
