I Am

I am pitifully, hopefully in love
I wonder if there will ever be a second chance
I hear us laughing together as I lose my balance
I see you smiling at me while I wait for my coffee
I want to feel your hand in mine
I am pitifully, hopefully in love

I pretend sometimes that it never happened
I feel lost without you talking to me every day
I touch your face as you kiss me in my memory
I worry that I'll never get to tell you any of this
I cry every time that I think about you
I am pitifully, hopefully in love

I understand that things won't change
I say to myself that I'll eventually be fine
I dream that you're hugging me tightly and won't let go
I try to make sure you never know
I hope that I can one day tell you that
I am pitifully, hopefully in love
