Baby It Is Cold Outside

I can hear the mouthless wind,
loudly howling outside my window.
Its wingless unseeable form whipping through the leafless trees.
Ridding the branches wildly,
blowing falling flakes onto every available space,
and covering them in whites,
giving them admirable shapes.

Oh what a magical sight to gaze upon indeed.
And although I happily enjoyed watching the snow soundlessly gliding down,
kissing the ground softly and forming beautiful landscapes,
the harshness wind is toothlessly bitting through my bones with its frigid coldness.

So I think it’s time to turn up the fireplace for some heat to my chilled bones,
and maybe a cup of delicious hot cocoa to warm my soul.

Because
baby it is cold outside…

Fin, this is amazing, you so captured the bitter cold, and painted entire scenes, sounds, and memories for me! Well, winter is passed, enjoy the warmth of the coming months. Thank you so much for your visit to my poem, and your comment. I'm happy to meet you :)

Fin, I really enjoyed how the frigid; wintry backdrop is juxtaposed with the warm and inviting elements of the fireplace and the mugs of hot cocoa. Incredibly well done.

I love the pleasant contrast between the cold, wintry scene and the coziness of the fire and hot cocoa, Fin. Excellent work. :)

The song is one of my favorites. Well composed.

Excellent read! Felt the sting of cold to the bone. Sometimes I get overdone with the desert heat, but when the cooler season comes, after a few weeks I honestly start missing 115 degrees. The old bones don't tolerate cold too well anymore.

So sweet a sensation it will be to sit close to the hearth on a winter day and sip a cup of delicious hot cocoa. Well done Fin

So descriptive and an enjoyable and soothing read.

I really like this one. I do know how pretty the snow is to watch, yet how cold it gets with the wind. I can relate to your fireplace, with having a woodstove. You have shown the contrast well. I like the comfort you bring forth in the poem :)

Love this fin ! You definitely brought me into the frigid beauty and howling frostiness with your words describing the frozen beauty and conditions surrounding you ! I will stay inside and gaze out the window and join you for a cup of hot cocoa by the fire ! Hugs, Susan :)

Very cold my dear poet friend Fin and coldness creates such an amazing view. Always dreaming to experience this coldness in my life to watch snow sliding down. Hope someday I will. Thanks you so much for sharing this very wonderful poem. Blessings to you always and your writings. Hugs

Hi Fin, First of all, I must say your title alone grabbed my attention. It reminded me of the song with the same name. When I started to read the poem you didn't disappoint. You have did a fine job describing this cold season. Your last four lines summed up this write very well. Enjoy the rest of your evening:-) Alexis

Hello Fin. Your chosen words and placements are very much poetic. The entry in its entirety is poetry. I loved your usage of mouthless and leafless. A very nice poetic touch. Thank you for sharing your poetic talent. Have a wonderful day. Take Care (smile)

We get cold but no snow here in Malta, Fin, but in spite of that I still enjoy reading poems such as yours. Your end line takes me back in time when Dean Martin had a hit with the same title... Regards // paul

Brrrr: That 'mouthless wind' causes me to say -- Grrrrrr. Here's to Spring! ~ gw

Watching the snow fall and then cover the ground like confetti, is such a breathtaking image. Oh, but I agree with you- that frigid wind really bites. Enjoying some hot chocolate by a fireplace will warm you up. Good for you, Fin. Many wonderful blessings to you. :) Hugs, Brandy

Love your descriptive poem, your choice of words flowing, this is great,
Date: 4/1/2023 7:01:00 AM

Mouthless wind--wingless form--leafless trees--splendid imagery and poetic vocabulary throughout my friend. Your opening stanza sets the stage for the second stanza--soundless snow gliding down. A FAVE for the scene you painted and brought forth to the reader, Fin.

Your loving the snow…but, Baby it’s cold outside…time for a fire and hot cocoa. Very nice, Fin!
