A Star Given Goodbye

“The stars are quite beautiful tonight,
Don't you think?
Larger than our sun yet smaller than our fingertips.
What would it be like to see them up close?
Would we feel the warmth?
You can only really know if you experience it,
If only that was possible.
I think it would feel like a bonfire,”

What words go through your mind at your last breath?
Would it be begging for another second,
Strength to inhale just one more wisp of air,
Time to think.
If we had all the time in the world,
Would we ever set aside any of it,
For an obituary?

If only I had that silly thing, time,
I would have done things so differently.
I would have those things set aside for my demise.
It would all be wrapped in one neat little bow.
However, no one can guess the future,
That's times job.
So here I am.
Still, staring forward
Breath growing stale in my lungs.
I wish I could feel the warmth,
It's so cold,
Movement is an afterthought,
Yet I'm staring at a titan of flame,
A star, a bonfire
Up close.
Larger than our sun,
And larger than my fingertips.

No warmth… so cold…

It seems almost teasing,
When my breathing is no more,
Lungs gone still and full of snow,
The last words I hear,
Are yours.
And no ears to hear,
My final goodbye,
From a star
