The Tree In the Woods
The tree in the woods is where my lifeline ties
The promise I made until the cardinal dies
was etched in stone for memories sake
for this burden to carry and this burden to take
Across the path through the glades I walk
There was a lonely branch once where the cardinal stood
And behold I saw the beauty in it
Protesting it should stand well and good
Upon to me a plead is made
to make sure it never falls
bear witness to this be it your word
and should this tree fall down
The man responsible will bear my mark
of a sword planted in the ground
For no passion has an animal than this cardinal perched
When the time comes for it to take flight
I dare a man to look away
From such a magnificent sight
Reviving me from previous nostalgia
the bird whispered back to me
Guard this tree with your life
And wait till my return
this tree is the knowledge of good and evil
this message would my passion burn
to guard this tree with all my being
and to love the way it sways
under the wind the tree branch flows
And the birds who live in it singing
remember the promise until you die
remember the tree in the woods
