Sand In the War

I, a worthless grain of sand,
Was flung as English soldiers claimed the land.
On the grey beach of Normandy, France,
The German soldiers had no chance.
Back and forth, up and down,
Thrown, as soldiers began to drown.
Clung to the soggy frenchman's foot,
I gazed as soldiers began to put,
Their weapons down, beaming grin,
It could only be a momentous win!
'France is ours, we got it back!'
The German army began to crack.
It all came together, on this day of D,
Where allied victory came to be.
Although the soldiers wore ecstatic smiles,
I couldn't help but think,
was it worth the while?
The massive death count and blood spilled,
were surely not pure lives fullfilled,
friendships broken, families torn,
all for Ferdinands smile to be worn!
The excuses for this deed were poor
and I couldnt think of the point of war!
As I washed up upon the beach,
I thought of the stories I could teach.
To other, smaller, grains of sand,
That I could find upon new land.

Hi Abby.. I really enjoyed reading your creative work this morning. Your poem, my dog at my feet, and a hot cup of Colombian coffee make for a perfect trifecta! Come see me today if you get a chance...
