Closer To the Ground ,A Reflection of Childhood

The world is very different
When you're closer to the ground

The real world so high above;
The canopy and clouds

A place where time and hurry
Are not ever on your mind

That dilly dally wandering
Now seems so far behind

...and now it's hard to turn it off;
The time-clock, and the work

And in the corners of my mind
The worry starts to lurk

Sometimes I still remember
I'd just sit there on the ground

And brush my hands on blades of grass
To listen to the sound

The ants went marching one by one
...a single file line

All that work for just one crumb?
... I thought it was a crime

I wonder how I got so tall
I wish I could go back

To see the moss that grows
To fill the sidewalk with the crack

I think I'll plan a weekend trip
To just sit by the sea

And try to get back to the place
I wish that I could be

I'll flip the rocks to find the crabs
That scurry fast to hide

And dig my toes into the sand
And spend the night outside

I'll listen to the waves
The way they crash along the shore

And try not to forget again
When I come through the door

Autumn Magic

Autumn Magic

The winter snow
The summer sun
The spring;
When thawing has begun
To miss these seasons would be tragic
But nothing's quite like autumn magic!
A time when magic's in the air
With pumpkins growing everywhere
Spooky nights and morning chill
A scarecrow standing on the hill
Creeping cat is black as soot
Crunchy leaves are under foot
Harvest moon is shining bright
Shadows fleeting in its light
Enjoy it now; before it's gone
Magic never lasts for long

Pieces

My soul was like a puzzle
When I was a little girl
I had a piece of everything
... The beauty of the world

A colorful mosaic
Made for everyone to see
For me to take into the world
And see what I would be

I took a piece of poetry
To hide it from my friends,
...and then a piece of silliness,
But that’s not where it ends

I had a piece of music
That I used to love to play.
The people liked a different tune
... I let it slip away

And as I traveled down the road
I left them here, or there
I let some people take them,
... And I didn't really care

But one day when I sat to rest,
I noticed they were gone
I left behind the colors,
And the laughter, and the song

So I went back to look for them,
But only found a few
My pieces didn't fit
The way they did, when they were new.

Some pieces were still missing
And I’d never get them back.
Some pieces torn and tattered,
... So; I put them in a sack.

And now I hold my pieces close,
I use them everyday
I hope to someday fix them,
... And then put them all away.

Trick Or Treat

Luminaries lining stairs
Ghosts and goblins walk in pairs

Jack-o-lanterns flaming faces
Standing guard on all their places

Frantic feet on crunching leaves
Only on"All Hallows' Eve"

Doorbells dinging: bony witches
Offer treats from candy dishes

Spooky mansions: quite a sight
Haunted yearly, for one night

Staying out for just one more
Waiting breathless at the door

"Trick or Treat!" the end is near
See you all again next year
