Closer To the Ground ,A Reflection of Childhood

The world is very different When you're closer to the ground The real world so high above; The canopy and clouds A place where time and hurry Are not ever on your mind That dilly dally wandering Now seems so far behind ...and now it's hard to turn it off; The time-clock, and the work And in the corners of my mind The worry starts to lurk Sometimes I still remember I'd just sit there on the ground And brush my hands on blades of grass To listen to the sound The ants went marching one by one ...a single file line All that work for just one crumb? ... I thought it was a crime I wonder how I got so tall I wish I could go back To see the moss that grows To fill the sidewalk with the crack I think I'll plan a weekend trip To just sit by the sea And try to get back to the place I wish that I could be I'll flip the rocks to find the crabs That scurry fast to hide And dig my toes into the sand And spend the night outside I'll listen to the waves The way they crash along the shore And try not to forget again When I come through the door

Windie: That was wonderful and well written. I'm retired now and fortunate to spend time in my "second" childhood. However: I do often forget why I came through the door. :o) Keep them coming. And thank you for sharing your work with all of us on the soup. oldbuck
