Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
She exposes her body to a lot of people she experiments so that she is able to put food on the table. Her shift starts at sunset when the town is quiet and a few people are around to see.
She walks around in the streets half naked and her body exposed to the cold, but that does not bother her.She stands there with her colleagues awaiting to be called by their customers.
When its her turn she prepares herself for the worst. She hopes and pray that she will come out alive. Her customers are men who are ruthless and that have wives.
Sometimes she walks away without being paid for her duties. She again has to go back and try again and again. She operates her business anywhere her customer sees fit.
She has to please her customers, her stomach depends on the little change she gets. When her shift is over she heads back to her tunnel that she calls home. She heads back to her little baby that she's wrapped with a piece of cloth.
She heads home with enough money to buy her baby food to eat. Her mind body and soul tired as she kisses her baby good night.
She watches her baby fall asleep, as she injects herself with medication that will give her the ability to forget about her life.
Prostitution her source of income.

Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
What am I? Her mind wonders when she looks at herself in the mirror accounting on why God created her this way. She looks at her reflection and all she can see is pain inside of her.
Her mind left confused when people never notice that she is around. She stands there waiting to be noticed, she stands there waiting to be approved by everyone around her.
Her mind shifts away when they start calling her names when they start expressing how ugly she is. She stands there thoughtless and unwanted by everyone. She has rejected herself.
She looks into her soul and all she can see is hurt. She reaches for her heart only to find out that they’ve broken her heart into little pieces.
She looks at her naked face trying to understand why she is different.
What am I? She asks herself trying understand why her mother tells her she is beautiful but yet other people are saying the complete opposite.

Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
Hurtful mind that escalates when the heart is surrounded by pain and sorrow. The body weakens when the soul is destroyed.Disappointments have caused for doubt and pain. He sat there all alone in his little corner afraid to come out, it looked as if he was a dying man. His lips were covered in blood, his eyes were like pieces of glasses. He watched as people walked by. He sat there hoping for a miracle to come down from heaven. He lifted his hands into the sky hoping that God would change his life.

Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
By the street corners you'll find them lost and hungry. As they sit there, we pass as if they don't exist as if they are not human beings.
Their cloths are torn their shoes are broken into pieces. They sit there as if they are lost and confused.
Their mouths dry like the sand in the desert. As we look into their eyes we can tell of their struggle, we can tell of a story the saddens the soul.
We watch as they walk around helpless in need of our assistance. As we walk past them, we witness the brokenness in their fingers.
There are those who walk with faith in their hearts, there are also those who walk with emptiness in their hearts.
The streets have eaten their faith. Inside their immune system you'll find nothing but pain.
They are used to the struggle, they've encountered a lot in the streets, but despite this they are able to wake up in the morning and live like you and me.
Poverty in the streets.

Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
I reach for life but my body is empty,
I look around and all I can see is darkness.
I call for help but nobody seems to be there for me.
I look inside of me and I am lost in the mist.
Everybody has lost faith in me everybody hates me.
How do I reverse my doings how do change the past.
Deep inside of me I feel broken I feel pain.
I wish you’d understand why I did it. I wish they'd find it in their hearts to forgive me.
I did wrong but I feel like I did right. I have caused so much pain to so many people. People regarded me as stupid they did not believe in me.
How do I reverse all that I have caused how do I patch things up with those who once believed in me.

Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
Please take us into a place where hurt is not found, a place where happiness is in the eyes of each and every one of us.
Take away the pain that we carry inside of us, pain that we’ve buried in our thoughts.
Open our eyes; let us see our potentials let us live our dreams without being worried about being judged.
Let each child capture opportunities that will take them out of a place full of darkness into a place where hope and love is found.
Please activate our thoughts and abilities into action; let us use our hands to change our circumstances.
Develop strong hearts that will withstand the pressure of the people who don’t believe in dreaming.
Allow our souls to dream .

Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
How does he forget the smell of your smile, the essence of your personality that drew him closer to you, it drew him closer to love.
He sits in his little corner trying to examine why he likes you so much, he sits and wonders if you’d ever accept him for who he is.
He grabs a piece of paper and a pen hoping that he will get the courage to tell you how he feels about you.
You stole his heart when you whispered sweet words into his ears. He looks at you and wonders how he will ever risk telling you how he feels about you.
He wonders if he should make the first move and hand you his heart. He is not sure if you already own someone's heart already.
He looks back at the day when he pretended to be someone else just so that he could get closer to you. He regrets not telling the truth about who he is.
He carries his heart and hopes and prays that you will someday open your heart and allow him to give you all of him.
He looks at you when you not looking and he is blown away by how humble you are. He is astonished by how you both are the same people.

Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
Mind lurking elsewhere; Like the thief in the night
Inner thoughts trapped where bad is considered the best
Heartless soul that attacks the spirit
The gate way to heaven is nowhere to be seen
Mindless body that lurks for sin
Deeds that darken the light
Attempts to stop, but the feeling refuses
Inner ability to pray has failed, uncontested weakness has occurred
Sin rushes through my veins; day in and out
A call out to God has placed me on hold
Blind hands that hold nothing but the devils plate
My soul covered in mud like a pig in mud
Dirt follows me in the night it eats me alive
I trying to believe but my faith is weak
I knocking on faith’s door but nobody seems to be inside
Waking around in never land hoping to find me
I cry out to the bible, but my cries are silent
Open your heart oh lord as I kneel before you
People around me so distant that I see them no more

Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
Heart so cold that my mind is unable to function, I reach for life and manage to find it, but I am all alone. I seek for happiness but I cannot find it. I look around and the only person I can find is myself.
Happiness where are you?
You tried to resemble with me, you tried to charm me with your sweet words but I pushed you away. You told me how beautiful I was, still I pushed you away. I told my heart that I can never let a man enter my heart and I told you that I was not willing to give love a chance.
Happiness where are you?
I watched as you walked away disappointed, I saw the sadness in your walks. I witnessed how you tried to reconnect with me again, but I pushed you away again. I refused to listen to you.
Happiness where are you?
I sat down and paused for a minute just so I could understand why I pushed you away. My heart quickly stopped beating when I realized that I had made a mistake and that I might never see you again.
Happiness where are you?
I looked back hoping and praying that I would see you again, hoping that I would be able to tell my heart to give you a chance. I looked back, but you were gone. Will we ever meet again ?
Happiness where are you?

Ayathandwa Mpofu Poem
Hold me and never let me go, let me rest into your thoughts.
Allow me to wonder into your life without being worried about being hurt.
Let our hands unite. Look into my heart and tell me how beautiful I am to you.
Don't promise me the world, but promise me that you will be there for me when I need you.
