20-20 Vision

If I knew then what I know now, I would have fought for us.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have said my peace.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have begged you to stay.

If I knew then what I know now, these tears would not flow so freely.

If I knew then what I know now, I would have noticed you not noticing me.

If I knew then what I know now, eventually the tears would dry up.

If I knew then what I know now, I’d know that you loving anyone was never your thing.

If I knew then what I know now, I would tell myself to move on.

If I knew then what I know now, I would've kept searching till I found the right one.

Never Enough

One moment with you is never enough.
Not enough time to study the brown of your eyes.

One moment with you is never enough.
Not enough time to compare the span of your hand to mine.

One moment with you is never enough.
Hugs should be long and end slowly with a kiss.

One moment with you is never enough.
Let's not rush any moment, especially a moment like this.

I Wasn'T Worth the Fight - Make Their Jaws Drop Contest

I met him the day I was born and would soon call him dad.
He promised to love and protect, promises some only wish they had.

Time moved forward; the love and protection of another I sought.
What a fight to fight, what a fight I fought.

Now, my daddy stood 5'9", maybe a little less.
When he said these words, he puffed up his chest:

"Little girl, he doesn't love you; he doesn't care!"
"How would you know that? It is only to me that his love is shared."

"No matter little girl, I will make things right."
He came to you and you gave in; I know now I wasn't worth the fight.

I wasn't worth the fight.
You let him pick your then and now.

I wasn't worth the fight.
Who were you to choose where my heart would lay down?

Daddy thought he kept his promise; he thought he made it right.
Remind me again why I wasn't worth the fight?

All That We Are

You say how you feel with your eyes, but your heart keeps running away.
You say how you feel with your actions, things your mouth could never say.

What are you afraid of? Afraid to admit what I've known all along?
What are you afraid of? Afraid to admit that what you feel is oh so strong?

I say what I feel with my words, words only paled by the screams of my heart.
I say what I feel through tears; my world without you will fall apart.

What am I afraid of? Afraid you will see the real me and turn aside.
What am I afraid of? Afraid you will see the real me and won't want to take the time.

Can we say "I Love You" and walk away, not knowing if it will matter?
Will we say "I Love You" and walk away, and in the distance hear our hearts shatter?

Silently we move about each other's space, caring deeply from afar.
Symbolically wiping tear from each other's faces - its all we can be; it's all that we are.

Love Impossible

I made a vow, for better or worse.
Now the worse has arrived.

It’s not your fault, you did nothing wrong.
It’s impossible to love you, although I’ve tried.

You see, my heart was never yours.
Years ago, I gave it to another.

He moved on, so I forced a move of my own.
The truth, though, I hoped you’d never discover.

Some days I look in your eyes and see the hurt that I caused.
Some days I force a kiss or hug, but those actions only bring pause.

It’s impossible to love you, although I’ve tried.
It’s not your fault, I’ve been living a lie.

I know that you love me, at least you say you do.
You deserve a better love, a love meant only for you.

Do You Know

Does she know? Does she know she holds the key to the best of you? Does she care? Or are you just a possession, a trinket to place inside her secret box? Does she love you? No doubt. An art collector has love for the genius of the artist; a collector of jewels has love for the many facets of their most prized diamond.  You are more than just someone's vision splashed on this thing called life. You are more than two pieces of coal randomly rubbed together.

Does she know?  Does she know the passion you hold inside? Don't dismiss it; it is golden, worthy to be collected. The way you sense hurt in words read but not spoken. The comfort given by just a glance from across the room. The way you steal the breath from my lungs when you walk by. The way your eyes pierce through my soul while carefully reading my lips.

Does she know? More importantly, do you know?

Tell Me For True

Look in my eyes and tell me for true.
What does my love really mean to you?

When you think of it flowing your way by the ton,
Do you consider it a prize that you've won?

Look in my eyes and tell me for true.
What does a touch from my hand mean to you?

When you imagine my hand stroking and cupping your face,
Do you wish it be followed by a long embrace?

Look in my eyes and tell me for true.
What do our kisses mean to you?

When you kiss my lips, do you find them soft and
Find my tounge with a taste so sweet?  Do you?

Look in my eyes and tell me for true.
What will backing away from me mean to you?

When you envision the day we finally part, do you see yourself
Letting your heart speak to my heart?

Look in my eyes and tell me for true.

Pieces of Us

So much broken glass all over the floor. It is everywhere. Broken reflections of me and you. Now what? Pieces of us all over our memories. To my left, the piece of me saying something, but no sound. To the right, the piece of you reaching, but no hand to grab hold of. And over there, two pieces that fit perfectly, but oddly don't belong together. So much broken glass all over the floor.

Stop! Don't use your hands...cuts upon cuts...that's the result. How then do we gather the pieces? Should we try to arrange them to see the picture that unfolds? Do we just leave the pieces there and step over them? Must we care enough to make sure future memories can't be broken? So much broken glass all over the floor.

Too much broken glass...it is everywhere. Two broken people, seeking meaning, life, love among all this broken glass. Two broken people loving each other the best way they know how among all this broken glass. These are the pieces of "us."
