63 and Beyond

Gained in 1957 our Independence.
Hailed by all as the Black Star, the gateway and leader to Africa's independence.
At the turn of this decade, are we truly independent?
Not yet politically, economically, and socially truly independent?
All the toil and blood of our fathers were they in vain?

God, You did indeed bless our homeland, intended her to be great and strong.
Humility truly has made us boldless and fearful
All we have is pseudo-peace: no good name worthy of upholding and defending.
No longer does honesty reign in this nation, untruth of all kinds is the order of the day.
All of our strengths and our hearts we serve Ghana not but our selfish interests.

God invigorate us to defend our heritage
Humility kindly substitute with hard work, entrench honesty and please as jara add punctuality.
And help us to resist our self-serving individualistic nature.
Nurture unto to us leaders with the state’s prosperity truly in their hearts.
And with all our will and might we shall follow them, playing our best part, forevermore.

The Right Choice

At one fleeting imperative instant in my stretched journey of life
I had to wage a war.
At stake my ordained short life
A war warranting its stretch some scarce second more
My adversaries rallied their troops quickly than I blinked
Readied the battleground and at me thunderously called out

It was my war nonetheless I needed allies.
On my right stood my friends.
What was left of the right, my foes.
I could only choose a faction.

I went with my foes.
For I knew their inner thoughts and real intentions towards me.
For if they decided to change
Then my luck at play were new friends

My abandoned friends though
If at any moment in waging the war were to change
I will only achieve the three last letters of friend in my life,
End.

The Bleach

They label me black
But that’s inaccurate
I’m just different shades of brown.
I’m looked at with disdain
Yet I’m the original creation
Version 1.0
Made for the harsh terrible world
Out of love and foresight
Not pale, Not discoloured
Not burnt by the rays of a star on a bright sunny day
Yet I’m inferior
I’m natural, naturally natural
Then turn I to my sister
Now discoloured and smelly when her pores open
All in the pursuit of pinkness
Ignorant of the fact no one is white
I collapsed at the sight of my brother
Following those same destructive unsensible steps too.

No, More Opinions

If I rant about race
I’m racist.
If I speak on sex
I’m sexist.

I convey a hearty compliment
I’m sexually harassing.
I speak of stature
I’m body shaming.

I pronounce on politics
I’m partisan.
I fight for liberty
I’m a terrorist.

The line these days to tread so fine.
All my intentions positive
Now misconstrued negative.

Hence now I promise pledge
Not to err by airing my views
But all in my mind to restfully reside.

But when my mouth does breaks its seal
And an opinion does decide to depart
And often it will intentionally do, I PRAY.

I’m sure a suit I will land
With damages to pay
Only if imprisonment slips away.

This, I don’t mind anyway.
By then the truths’ travelled realms,
Seen ears and felt eyes,
Heard brains and pondered hearts.
My soul’s aim achieved.

B B

My Mother, My Mother.

My Mother, I’m blessed to have you.

My Mother, a Father when he departed.

My Mother, the Sister I never had.

My Mother, my third Wife.

my mother, be proud, for as you taught me, only our God and His Mother outrank you.

My Mother, a true Mother.

My Mother,

Bold and Brave.

Step Into My Shoes

All your positive purposes out negative.
The scheme to spur now stalling.
The speech’s structuring is all that matters.
Why not a moment take to think them through.
Before you blow my light within out
And scar my brain and heart forever
With weightless words sprinting smoothly off your tongue.

Centuries rapidly crawling by will render no remedy
To my shattered spirit hopelessly hovering the earth
Feeling insecure about my brain’s output
And leaving my self-image constantly contending my heart’s will.

About it, your brain must think thrice.
On yourself, in my shoes, test twice.
Then, only at me, orate once.
Certainly, all constructive words coming from you
Will in me impart zeal to attain success
With a smile at both ends.
After your words, after our success.

Counsel Through the Generations

As I was told so do I tell it, my only son.

“They rotate and keep changing their faces.
Their sole aim is to mislead you about their thoughts.
They revolve and keep changing positions.
When it’s sweet they come, go when bitter.
They forget in their attempt to outwit that you are stationary.
For your values are steadfast.
You never cease to shine,
Your commitments are unwavering.
You do not imitate them, they do you!
For in that second in their changing, they are fixed.
Their values and commitments at a point in time align with yours.

Your bright light shines on them as they change.
Your principles in dealing with all men unchanging.
Even on their dark side, you are still reflected there.
As they plan your fall you are their spring.
They rotate and dance around because of you.
For your power, they keep altering behaviour.
Your mass bends time and space to permit their dance.
Your integrity permeates boundaries and time zones opening progress doors.
But this fact is relative to those who comprehend.
Indeed! it’s relative to those who comprehend!

Without you in place there no “Centri”.
Without you, the centres hold not!
Centri can’t be fugal.
The music stops, the dance ends.
All stop their fictitious center fleeing
Centri can’t be petal.
The flower blooms not and so does progress.
All stop their real centre seeking.

Though the ruler, subject you are, to their ultimate progress.
Everyone dies, so when your time is due,
Look to your distant brothers who twinkle no more,
And humbly bow out, for at that spectacle though brief,
You outshine those who hung on.
These have been passed down from generation to generation,
Since the first complete rotation and its products known,
The world’s knowledge at its peak reaching yet messages within these unknown.”

I’m a son, son, pay heed to these words.
The oldest among the living who heard these same words is my grandfather.

Sigh

If I could fly
I’d only sigh
After my two sharp eyes
Have seen from up high
The whole world wide entire.
The blue, the green, the brown, and white
And all other colours that glow so bright.
By then my “aahhh” is done,
With a joyous heart of earth’s beauty adorned.
