Hard Drive

For months I’ve partitioned – sectored my strife
Trying to determine – wrong from the right
Clinging to bits – healing the bytes
Moving and changing – formatting new life

My career crashed – with it my dreams
Memory erased – circuits burned clean
Connection to love – garbled and crossed
Power was fading – all color lost

A new system needed – more power and thrill
New creativity – speed and the skill
Designing new backup – restoring my line
Application of will – turn tables on time

Tap my known current – discarding old woes
Erase obsolete system – vanquish all foes
Move to the center – empower self trust
Stun all the comers – lightning fast thrust

No longer lie down – and wait for the call
Stand up and fight – pin them to the wall
Knowing I’m better – than any machine
Time to arise – from a protracted dream

And so I forgo – all advice of claimed best
Listen inside – put myself to the test
It’s hard but I’m winning – getting better by day
Pain is less troubling – I’ll continue this way

Miracles Unfold

With boldness untold
She bared me her soul
Confiding in me
Her very humanity

A gif of herself
So courageous and free
It clarified for all
The direction from thee

On a beach in the moonlight
You showed me the way
For goodness and grace
Now I see it today

A gift divine
So crystal so clear
That forever in this life
Will I know what is dear

I pledge to her again
My heart and my soul
For it is in her arms
That the story will be told

Should I falter should I fall
I beg of you now
Give me the strength
To climb this high wall

In this life we’ve created
I vow for her my best
I’ve climbed the high mountains
God put me to test

He gave me the vision
To continue to see
That in this life
There is only Susan and me

128270

128270 is all that I am
Merely a number no longer a man
A decade of hope and honor and pride
This machine has no compassion inside

Our leaders, stockholder and managers entranced
Lay havoc on each of us worker bee ants
The poison the spill on the piles of our dust
Is often confused for a new business must

In hives and holes scattered and abound
Lay us worker bee ants trying to make our day rounds
The drill and the chore is all which in store
And in the end nothing perhaps a bit more

The leaches they suck on our blood like their due
To engorge on the life-force of us non-precious few
And us worker bee ants start the dawn of the day
And in darkness return whence where we stay

The bastards have lunches in high flying jets
Vacations and ranches and blank corporate checks
Smiling on all they view and think own
Everything for a buck no matter who’s thrown

We the disrepute the embarrassing child
Churn in a belly of pure acid bile
Rot and decay our lot in out time
Treated as nothing but discardable slime

And as Gary our heart and our soul and our light
Dissolves into unconsciousness blight
The leaders look to the terror sans see
Ignoring all that is that which we flee

Can You Take Me There

While together looking to far distant mountains
Reaching high into clear evening air
Seeming to speak much wiser than years
He asks, “Daddy can you take me there?”

Another day, spotting a train clattering by
Silently watching its lumbering fare
Counting to himself, the first of its cars
Then asking if I could please take him there

Often it is utterances similar to these
From a mind of striving, unquenchable thirst
Airplanes and water towers and ships traversing seas
Seemingly, always something new to unearth

Ever pleading, but always proudly
For understanding just beyond grasp
Becoming a little boy before my eyes
Long since removed are his nursery wraps

The longing to experience newfound wonder
Pushes his footsteps in front of his path
Behind I follow in childish anticipation
Cherishing memories and building tomorrow’s past

I learn more about life in each he discovers
God ever clearer with this learning anew
All these years I’ve walked my own way
Now I realize our days together too few

His journey is only recently beginning
And my past experiences to him are just that
So we’ll walk his path together in peace
Counting and reading and jumping our craft

And as monuments and majesty come before us
I’ll be guiding the way of my eager young care
I knowingly await what soon he’ll be asking
“Daddy, can you take me there”

Walk With Me To the Shoreline

The calm before the storm
Bids us to ignore the brewing tempest
Still the nimbus are towering beyond the horizon
As inexorably the squall line approaches our respite
Walk with me to the shoreline
For I fear not the fury
Stand with me to confront the shifting currents
And prevail the harsh elements before us
As the laden columns rise to blot the sky
And seize the light from out tomorrow
I shall rise up in contest
To ensure the continuance of our day
With a fury for the typhoon
Its winds will not deter me our days
The surf will pound around us
And violent gusts will tear at our fabric
But I refuse to be swept up in these tides
Just as these winds will dwindle to zephyrs before me
The lightning will crash and the thunder echo
But they shall gather not my attention
For I focus on the quieter seas to follow
In the days of lesser tumult
When the gentle breeze but wisps your hair
And the setting sun casts us in pleasant repose
I have seen these days before
And desire the grace of their twilight to come
They surpass any fury which can be leveled
And make as nothing the monsoon
So for now I await the storm with you here
When it arrives I shall raise my shield
To protect you from its vengeance
Will we may become dampened
We shall not drown
While we may be shaken by thunder
We shall not be disheartened
And as the seas rise around us
Our determination will summon its eye
In the morning the sun will rise again
Casting its view over the remnants
In these we will find that which we ever needed
The distractions will be blown from us
And we will sail the seas of our life
Collecting the cherished
And leaving the deadweight behind
Here in this calm before the coming storm
Walk with me to the shoreline
Trust me to shelter you
I’ll keep you ever sound
And in allowing me this protection
You shall shelter me

In My Dreams At Night

In my dreams at night
She’ll always be there
In my dreams at night
She’s the one who cares

In my waking dreams
I long for the day
When our troubles are banished
Far and away

For in my heart
I know she wonders why
The Poet is buried
And seems to have died

Without his courage
Without his shame
He’s hidden from her
And carries the blame

To live life easily
To take less strife
He’s constrained himself
Troubling her life

Though so very strong
Her weakness carries today
His meaning before him
To burn these away

And still I hold him
Restrained incomplete
While she yet falters
Craving the heat

Feeling alone in the world
She rejoins to past action
I all the while knowing
Not risking reaction

I fear to free him
He may open the door
Which has once been opened
Then closed before

But today is not yesterday
Her not the one
Who pulled away from him
Before even begun

So I must free the Poet
Let him rule the day
For I to be me
For us to find a way

So as I unlock this door
And become who I am
I rest in the knowing
I am a good man

And as I lay here still
Dreaming today
Of our promise and our commitment
Carried away

I know that soon
Sleep will bring rest
For in the dreams I will have
I’ve let him be his best

I vow from today
Hereafter without fear
For her the Poet
Will ever be near

In my dreams at night
I’ve finally come this day
To my companion my purpose
My wife if I may

And Still We Do Not See

What is it we long for to strive yet not grasp
The teaming of images welling up from times past
Often this life we’ve been given such signs
To guide us our way through turbulent times

God is still with us as always we’ve known
He leads us our way down paths which he’s shown
And continue we wander from this life in the light
As if could determine wrong from the right

Why do we do this when not our desire
Forever our destiny grant substance to fire
Why when we see what life holds in store
Do we sit on our hands and do nothing more

A power within us to conquer the flame
Bury the ashes and will to sustain
How many more chances after this time
Is it weakness or strength which cobbles our minds

And when is it we change to what we must be
Re-write out lives to that which we see
Why when most everything is so easy to grasp
Are the things that we need are those we let past

Hurricane Bret

Come take all away
this home of my toil
rip it all down
leave only the soil

At 10pm Saturday
you showed me the way
to discard this life
to force a new day

I urge on the winds
jumping with glee
knowing before Bret
I’ve no choice but flee

The years here my pride
my family calls home
but also my exile
from the life I’ve been shown

So bring on the hurricane
center eye on this realm
command my decisions
force me to helm

I go now and rest
to prepare the new day
my dreams will sustain
this storm lights my way

The nimbus finally rise
over my home on this beach
8 months I’ve been waiting
straining the leash

My shield is now strong
I can vanquish all foes
destroy this forced exile
clear away her past woes

The shoreline I’ve written of
will now finally wash way
portending the promise
dawning new day

Nor Ever Will Seem Be

A construct of such fleeting integrity most ways
The life I’ve lived within these recent days
Beyond my measure I’ve been trying my time
Striving the life I long of sublime

I’ve reached too far, beyond my grasp
Out into thin air disregard of my past
Why did I think I could light up tomorrow
When never before could I envision the morrow

Holding myself the esteem I’ve long sought
Believing the life I can see I could wrought
Ever the liar to myself always grandest
And dragging down with me those whom I’m in hand with

Existence continued above that I’m able
Battling above, around and below my life’s table
Convincing inside myself I can win
All the while knowing my blood flows too thin

Why did I reach for and grasp that I can’t hold
Ignoring those days which long ago I unfold
I tell of myself that I can lift to the light
And walk in the path which shows others right

That which not I am nor ever will seem be
What I strive and I long for at last shown not me
My hose of cards falling ever faster now
I’ve not the speed to rebuild the art – how?

I’ve been plugging the leaks of the dike of my life
Moving faster and faster to pretend I can right
Now the water is consuming with a rapidity I can’t match
And the tide beyond rising to smash that which lasts

The Poet Who Lies Within

Residing deep within ever yearning to be free
Lies the poet banished for troubles other than he
Caught behind bars of fate and shame
It is not he who is to blame
Yet from these confines he can longingly see
The intention this world holds out for he
As clearly can be shown from the lord above
The grandeur it is for this poet to love
With elegance and grace unsurpassed in this world
And a need for his verse yet never unfurled
He’s long fought to cry out for this life
But waits restrained by ravages rife
The time is long past for his eloquence shown
The poet must finally determine his own
Case aside the façade he erected before
Embracing the wonder beyond this false door
And in so doing confront his past
To live the love forever at last
