The Tire Swing

A tire swing hanging from a willow tree
barely swaying to and fro
my small feet sweep
and kick up dirt
on the ground beneath and below.

Under a cold damp gray sky
safety is found here in the yard
from the darkness of the house
and the many things
I want to forget and discard.

As the rope holds my weight
my little mind is lost
too young to grasp the damage
or understand the cost.

I am the master of holding back tears
a lump keeps words from escaping
I scream silently inside
keeping my thoughts from shaping.

Slowly the motion rocks my fear to sleep
and I come back to where I came
imagination takes over
burying sad places
in my little frame.

My thoughts set free to run with wonder
oh how I love this tree
that I'm under.

Peace found while floating in a soft rubber tire
dark soul lit again
twirling under and
higher and higher.

Like scars that fade but never go away
rope has left a mark still Imprinted on the tree limb
In that yard
today.

A Forest and the Sea

wave and waiting shore
gulls sing with the oceans tune
rustling trees pitch in

I'll Never Know

What was in there all that time
was it good or soft or even kind
tell me please was it bright and clear
what was in there I would like to hear

Was it dusty and broken and hard to know
was it slowly lost some long time ago
did it mean to hurt and lie and scheme
what was in there and what did it mean.

I'm in there now I know it true
my smile so big its haunting you
my voice so soft as though I'm there
wanting eyes and the sent of my hair

What was in there good or bad I'll never know
I have to learn to let this go
it's best to leave this sort behind
I no longer care what's in Your mind.

Center

Steady my hand at the wheel
teetering a bit my toe and heel
as the mound falls and holds it's place
my hands and clay meet with grace
water and earth and mind at play
at peace and open my heart today.

I lift and rise and relax into shape
maybe tall or round or maybe mistake
I breath and hold cool mud to create
a pot full of energy for someone I'll make.
this comfort this bond it's natural I'm told
the excitement the passion may it never get old.

From ground to hand and fire and glaze
you move and grow and delight and amaze
good for my soul this art I've found
returning me to myself peaceful and sound.
Pottery pottery clay and more clay
Steady my hand at the wheel all day.

Up Until Midnight

Up until midnight am I
looking for a rhyme
It's late I say
to bed I should lay.

It used to be
up until midnight I was
with a lover you see
but no longer is he.

Alone I lay with my thought
instead of pleasure sought
it's now words at play
Instead of a roll in the hay.

The Night Air

Silent the sound of the night air
Calming me with its dark stare
The distant hum of ocean waves
For this I’ve waited the whole day.

Appearing before me my heart I see
The quiet mind finally
No thought or stress just free to be
I hear you night what a pair are we.

Silent and still without a care
Peace and love everywhere
Sweet tonight is our affair
Just me and you the silent night air.
