Butterflies In Transformation

Butterfly, you are protected,
hard-rigged outer layer of shell
Baby egg with thin coating of wax laid on a plant
Glued hard, silk pad which can't be separated

Few weeks close to winter
you are resting, waiting for the spring to hatch
if your mother waited for spring
your beauty was meant for summer

Caterpillar, Butterfly larvae, marveling and gracious cycles this live
Many have false eyes appear snake-like just to defend yourself
your colors are unpalatable to the birds
Time is up for you to anchoring yourself for the last time into a pupa

i see six legs now and a graceful flight with colors brighter than the rainbows
Migration faces
countless miles you wind tunnel
Seasons are short to see your love.
