Renovation

We’re all hurled
Into the midst,
A perfect world
Does not exist.

Taught to hate,
Doomed to die.
Our death rate
Has soared sky-high.

We can escape,
Begin the climb.
Build to reshape
Free from crime.

Help to offset
Push and shove.
Do not forget
How to love.

C U B 4

digits, emojis, abcs
compose a code
an irregular ode
void of literacy

cursive, capitalization, punctuation
go old school
immediate mass communication
has no rule.

how we connect
changes with time
words can’t reflect
your heart and mine

Unrequited

I can’t compete
With wealth own,
I must retreat,
Live life alone.

He’s with you,
I am not.
Hope fell through,
Another dream shot.

Won’t hold hands,
Share a heart.
Won’t make plans,
Grow old apart.

Reached the end,
Wish for more.
Hard to pretend,
I still adore.

Must not lament
Over my scar;
Must be content,
Love from afar.

Surpassing Understanding

When someone difficult dies,
How do you say goodbye?
I remember only lies,
My eyes remain dry.

What do I mourn,
What was or should’ve been?
Get beyond the scorn,
Rid myself of sin?

I need an answer
Much more bigger than me;
Hate spreads like cancer,
Love sets us free.

Each day we wrestle
Will never end all strife,
We’re just the vessel;
Love gives us life.

Expectancy

A mind erodes
Each day more,
Further down roads
Never been before.

A heart explodes
Early one morning,
Before life corrodes,
Left without warning.

There’s no choice
How we go.
Remember to rejoice,
You never know.

Nourishment

I need daily bread
Today more than ever,
Inside life is dead.
Tomorrow seems like never.

Life’s got too complicated
For me to figure out,
I’m lost and suffocated.
Nothing’s real but doubt.

The heavens aren’t opening
Raining manna like before.
I’m down here choking,
Begging for something more.

I could whine forever
About what isn’t fair,
Life isn’t suddenly better
You rise above despair.

Resilience

I’m stronger than you know
‘Cause I’ve learned to bend;
And though my burdens show
I refuse to let them win.

I’ve learned from everyday struggles
Fighting is often letting go;
Worrying only adds to troubles
There’s strength in saying no.

Look inside before above;
Don’t be bullied by peers;
Live your own love;
Don’t surrender to fears.

Question what came before;
Listen before you speak.
Give more than owe;
Turn the other cheek.

Smile more than frown;
Share what you own.
Don’t let sorrows drown;
Laugh more than moan.

Keep your feet on the ground;
Be grateful for your time;
When kicked down, rebound;
The view is worth the climb.
