How many souls live on the edge,
Between the gutter and the ledge?
A hopeless fear crawls in their gut,
Each day, another endless rut.
The moments pass profoundly slow
Sad, bitter winds are all that blow.
A man lay huddled near the bin
Hoping death will take him in.
Frozen tears, on wrinkled cheeks
Frostbitten ears, and shoes that leak.
His mind forgets the games of tag,
Old Crockett's hill, where down they'd slide.
A summer rain, the puddles deep
Out catchin' toads, to tame and keep.
His life began with dimpled cheeks,
Red tousled hair, and hide 'n seek.
A tough old Dad who tricked and teased
A pretty Mom who smiled with ease.
They had a farm with fields of hay
A few old hogs, and bills to pay.
One summer day, the sky turned black.
A howling wind brought down their shack.
Dad sold the hogs, and cut the hay.
The farm was lost, we drove away.
The next two years were grim and lean.
Dad broke his back, to feed us beans.
When winter came our food ran out.
We found old Dad hung by a rope.
Without poor Dad, no food or fire;
Mom took my hand, the day was dire.
The Sister's face looked mean and sour.
I thought of Mom most every hour.
They scrubbed my back until it bled.
cut off my hair, then I got fed.
'Twas many years before I left,
My Mom had died a tragic death.
Now all alone, I lived and slept.
I begged for food, and sometimes wept.
A life of days and endless woe,
Now time is dead, and death too slow.
As you walk by those 'homeless freaks'
Remember me, with dimpled cheeks.

When youth in full bloom
during Spring's green boom
See a robin fly by
or geese in the sky
Do not feel impressed
by Spring's new green dress
Thoughts all aflutter
tongues twist and mutter
When pretty young girls
with green bows and curls
Skip by with their friends
chit chat without end
Spring's green with envy
can't feel the frenzy
She plunks herself down
a sullen green frown
Soon clouds fill the sky
big tears fall from high
People just scatter
What is the matter?
Dear Spring takes a look
at the smiles she took
Demeanour improved
Her Green-ness is soothed.

I woke last night, with a heavy heart,
miles away, and world's apart,
sensing you... sensing you..
All through the night, and into morn,
headless fears and shadows form,
so forlorn... so forlorn..
Feeling scared, and knowing why,
seeing nightmares in your eyes,
over there... over there..
Images of ruthless foes,
dressed in black, from head to toe.
Jagged blade, held to your breast,
evil serpent, puffs his chest.
my only son... my only son.
Hide my soul and blind my eyes!
Precious son, I hear your cries.
Brutal boots, and shattered bones,
taunting jeers, and heavy stones.
A thousand lashes to your flesh,
hidden under prison dress.
Gagged and bound, they drag you out,
Infidel! they cruelly shout.
Forced to kneel; so hate will rise!
Dagger falls..... alone he dies.
A life of honor, and good cheer,
taken from you, with a sneer.
Heart of gold; at heaven's gate,
my precious son, in glory waits....

In my clock, I hear tickery tock
It just stopped! No tick tock from my clock
Oh my dear tick tock box
Now I fear there's a fox
In my tickery tockery clock
A sly fox in your dear tick tock box?
Oh my gosh, I can see his striped socks!
Well a stinky striped sock
could put germs in my clock
and cause tickery tockery pox.

My dearest love who makes me whole
Fills drafty places in my soul
Where grief and sorrow left a hole
Your loving ladle fills my bowl
Each loving touch removes a trace
of painful scars that mark a place
where hateful love seared every space
Sad, broken life and battered face
Your love a rare and precious pearl
New hope and joy we will unfurl
Forever blessed, my heart's a whirl
Transcends all pain poured on this girl

You are so very special
to this heart, this life.
You are my guide to light,
my friend to share this love so rare.
Divine design, unique,
one of a kind.
Placed at the perfect time,
my heart to find.
Each time your lips speak,
some new sweetness,
a cherished word, a phrase,
some old hurt you erase.
My precious love, My precious love
A deep, sharp pain,
this heart sustained.
But one day soon
shall be whole again.
Dark, ugly stain,
that yet remains,
will be washed away
by your precious love.
You bring tears of joy
when I hear those words,
that bind our lives, and
profess sweet forever.

Words I have waited
my whole life for,
Words that renew, and
heal my shattered heart.

Have you ever spent a night
outside in a tent?
chips and marshmallows
lanterns and pillows
Frolicking fun with good friends and
food mother sent
Backyard becomes a pirate's den
of thieves and foes
swords and swashbucklers
playfights and chucklers
Telling scary ghost tales of dungeons below
Night falls with thick darkness
a child's Brigadoon
loud whippoorwills hark
owls flap in the dark
Fears rise with the glow of
the smirking full moon
Time to tuck in, long night filled
with wonder and thrills
menacing shadows
thoughts of cruel gallows
Now eyes closing, in spite of
a fight with our wills
