Life Is Messy

Life is a mess and needs constant cleaning
Soap Opera glasses and bodies acquire meaning
She said this; He said that
Bureaucracy is getting fat, fat, fat

Life is a mess with no sanitizing
Half empty or half full is agonizing
Media talk; on the job gossip
Interacting with people considered Drama Prophets

Life is a mess and will stay as such
Many humans seem to lack the connective touch
Work harder, longer, faster, be perfect!
For some, this is equal to a creative reject

Life is really messy for the next generation
Faster, better, longer; utter frustration
Stress that will taunt and even hurt them
A messy loss of an antiseptic brain stem

Talkin' Bout My Generation

What has happened to our kids?
Why did we become the type of parents we did?
Is there a name for us?
Slower, easier, then turned into a mess of fuss

Using our imaginations and reading the classics galore
So much lovely literature to explore
Had to look up facts in a Book
Critical thinking came without one second look

Now we have I.T. people at schools
Showing and telling us...
something I never really wanted to use
Gets me into trouble
What DO YOU mean I can't have that document on the double?

So, this generation I am in...the before and after
Are a special bunch of people going faster and faster
We are a special generation, you see
We grew up without the almighty god of technology

People try to put us down... cuz' we don't know the way around
Can ya dig what I'm tryin' to say? Computers will never fade away
I'm not tryin' to cause a big sensation...
Google is fine, but not the only means of education

My Favorite Things As a Middle Aged Chick

Night sweats and crazy
Hot flashes and lazy
Mood swings and a body (?)
That looks pretty shoddy

Eating and bleeding and wanting to scream
These are a few of my Favorite Things

When your doctor
Says a shocker
that your
Uterus is a lobster

I simply remember to pretend I'm filled with glee
and then
I forget that my uterus is in atrophy

The Ten Commandments of Self-Sabatoge At Work -Try To Avoid

1O. Shut your trap to avoid any flap
9. Do not be overly fraught by "conventional thought" (dinosaurism)
8. Know how to deal with Soylent Green People
7. Stuff your ideas and different views-tip toe on the softest of shoes
6. Paperwork and procedure (I know) one can't bumble...doing so will make ya really humble
5. That being said, just go with the herd...bite your tongue people! Don't say a word!
4. Don't think too much-like we did...that special group without computers as a kid
3. If number four applies to you, don't question the almightly computer (as I sometimes do)
2. Clever, innovative, challenging, and problematic...yes, DAMNIT!, sometimes it pays to be
erratic
1. You are not a weirdo, strange, or dumb...just follow the status-quo, and get the **** done

Ironic, yes; I am able to say this over the "net". Contradictory, sure; technology is a
menacing lure. Maybe good 'ol Ray Bradbury was right on the money, and this is all pretty
darn funny. Farenhieght 451, I think your day may come. RIP books and innovation.

Ode To Why You Should Keep Your Door Double Locked

One fine morning, in early July,
A key opened a door that was locked-bye and bye
No notice, no call, no fateful warning
Uncle Frank walked in, unannounced, at eight in the morning

Lo and behold, the occupant was awoken
Some deep and recognized voice had spoken
Heading toward the voice, with sleep in his eyes
Robby said, "Uncle Frank! What a surprise!"

"Well, I'm feeling fat and a little shaken.
I'm afraid that yesterday I ate too much bacon.
May I please use Grandma's old bathroom scale?
Ever since her funeral, I feel like a whale.

With a shake of his head and a polite, "No."
Robby said, "You gonna wake up my ho.
A princess of mine is sleeping fair
So go ****ing weigh yourself in your own god damn lair."

The Bubble

Don't make noise, keep it quiet
We wouldn't want to insight a riot

Ironic? Books are becoming obsolete.
Ironic? I think books are kinda neat.
Ironic? I'm using a computer now.
Ironic? I had to learn. how. to. plow

Literature, thinking, it's all there
(it's easy to find...you know where)
Push that Google
Send that message

Who will be left to pick up the wreckage?

The Thought Counts

I wanted to give you twenty
My mom said, "Too much."
I wanted to give you twenty
Mom said, "Ten is enough."

I wanted to give you twenty
You were finally twelve
I wanted to give you twenty
In my mom's purse I could no longer delve

I wanted to give you twenty
Only got ten bucks
I wanted to give you twenty
darn. awe. shucks

Inspired by a card given to my son for his birthday
