Fairness

O' Fairness, fairness
Of thou I do beseech,
trifles of affection
bring hither to my reach
Not a kiss thou shall hold
to bring that darkling hour,
which blinds the eye
to passions quest
and lays our love to sour.

A Storm In Life

The sun was high, the big lake flat
Her brow she hid by brim of hat
With smile and eyes reflecting bright,
she rigged and sailed dawn till night
A crag-less bottom there did sound,
by hurt or sorrow she was not bound
One night she slept and when she woke
storm clouds churned, the sky they choked
The waves did rise to rolling swells
The roiling depths exposed to tell,
betrayal of her had come to light
The past erased in one dark night
For whom she'd loved through fog and mist
was not on board, but gone adrift
As inky skies unleashed their might
her mind and soul entrenched in fight
When winds increased to strength of gale
her heart was torn, as canvas sail
The crest did rage with violent force
Great waves of sorrow without remorse.
All storms must ebb as this one did
She turned the tide, her hurt she rid
With weather fair and skies aclear
she sails to beaches far and near
The storm did lay upon the sand,
an agate held now in her hand-a man

Where I Long To Be

Beneath the clouds so silver lined
A tranquil place that clears the mind
Sea birds soar through rays of light
They dip and turn on wings of white
Warm wet sand between my toes
Upon my face, a salt wind blows
This is where I long to be
beside the great roar of the sea.

From the Mist

I walked along the golden strand
and touched my soles to sun scathed sand
This is where we did meet
on that day by the sea
Then blown in on the wind
I saw her there, fair of skin
She came from mist of salt in air,
a white sun dress and auburn hair
We spent our time without a care
on that day by the sea
A lighthouse witnessed so profound
the love we made on sun drenched ground
I lusted for her, and she for me
on that day by the sea
when we walked along the cay
I did not know she couldn't stay
As waves took castles from the sand
the wind then swept her from my hand,
and back to mist above the strand
on that day by the sea
If again she's blown in on the wind
and comes to me to anew begin
Ill ask that she does stay with me
to live to love and forever be,
that great day by the sea

Winged Intruder

Wishing to kindle a cozy blaze
hearth doors swung, I stood amazed

a dark winged creature entered the room
escaping from its pending tomb

Kids eyes widened, my wife did scream
as I leapt into action for my team

From the closet I grabbed a broom
and chased the bat from room to room

as we both tired of this game
its skilled retreat brought me shame

when I wished to chase no more
it then flew out the open door

Lamplight

As daylight ends and darkness falls
a wick is lit on table or wall
Touched by match, soot does rise
as comes to life the dancing prize
Lamp oil rendered from beast of sea
now burns slowly, the aroma sweet
Prompted by pulsing yellow flame,
the globe shines bright, dimness wanes
Light to read and write is shed,
the lamp will glow till forced to ebb
Growing to weary to move about,
a rapid breath, and poof, its out

The Landing

An old house abandoned lay back from the curb
now long forgotten, its story unheard
I rose up the stairs feeling heavy of foot
When I arrived at the landing, around I did look
Three doors surrounded, all painted red
one left, one right, and one straight ahead
I now yearned to see what was behind
Might they bear wisdom to passage of time
The door I first opened was on my right side
The bolt slid smoothly the hinges did glide
Adorned in fine silk and threads of high count
this room was of splendor and that which amounts
A bed of four posts with a misty cloth veil
The lingering scent of sweet perfume did trail
A rug Wove in Persia covered the floor
I gasped at its beauty, and then closed the door
Now on the landing I pondered the next,
after the last, I now stood vexed
The door in the center was rugged and worn
As I then turned the knob, from my hand it was torn
The door flew open and a cold wind rushed
just for a moment, then all was hushed
Light from a broken sash lit the room
and told a sad story of an ending too soon
There on the floor with the sill just above
lying on shards, a white fallen Dove
Bloodied of breast and listlessly still
a symbol of love, but no longer of will
A deception of sight in flight brought her last
I took in the scene, recounting steps past
Now on the landing I pondered the next
The door now remaining was that on my left
From inside the room came a curious sound
As the door swung open, I stood in astound
Small dampened foot prints littered the floor,
and new ones appeared atop oaken boards
A young girl was singing a rhyme from gone bye
Her I could hear, but not see with my eyes
she seemed very happy and full of young life
At her age what did happen, what was her strife?
Why does she stay here yet to pass on,
and be with her family now that they've gone?
I felt a calm aura and warm gentle glow,
as back to the doorway I slowly did go
Now on the landing I pondered the rooms
They left me in wonder, and still they now do...
