Death,
thou boisterous ancient foe,
you crept in surreptitiously,
and bore a hole in our hearts.
It's 14 years now,
14 years of longing.
For seven years, the torrential rain battered us,
and we almost succumbed to the intensity of the rain.
Then,
a Moses arose,
lion-hearted damsel
and the lineage was rescued.
Father, I ache and bleed daily,
as I remember your tilling and planting seasons.
You planted many seeds in us.
Father, a little seed has sprouted,
and has borne many fruits,
succulent fruits indeed.
I wished I could give you a bite,
Alas,
the curtain was drawn 14 years ago,
and now you are a complete dust.
Adieu, my father!
Adieu, the muse that brought out the poet in me.

The pain, grief and sorrow that I felt after my father's death forced me to look for a way of expressing the pent up emotion of anger and sadness; poetry gave me the answer. Over the years, I have fallen in love with poetry and no one can break the union

There Is Sunshine Today

There is sunshine today,
the gloomy cloud of yesterday is gone.
Now, I can spread my wings,
and soar above the sky.

My Sincere Wish For All Soupers

I wish for you a bright day,
with no darkness on your way.
I wish for you a sunny day,
with no clouded sky overhead.
May you have enough sunshine ,
to last you your life-time.
When the rainy days come,
may you not be drenched by the torrent.
When the stormy days raise their heads,
may you ride to safety on their waves.
In all, I wish you the best that life can offer.

This is for all soupers who have made writing poetry an interesting hobby for me

Now That the Monster Is At Our Gate

Yesterday, there was a bang,
which gave me a pang.
Then I shrugged my shoulder.
afterall, it never happened at my corner.
Today there is a blast,
near our market place mast.
Then I said, 'at last.
the monster is at our gate.

My Poem In Her Boat

When I came to the soup,
I did not know how to tame,
the straying syllables on my Haiku.
Then, she took me under her wings,
and I have learnt so much since then.
I have learnt the trick of weaving words,
on the spindle to form poetry.
Though, I am not a good student,
for I skip classes now and then,
but she pursues me here and there.
Surely, one day I shall grow like her,
writing poetry without getting weary.
Haa, have you heard the latest,
she has just elevated me,
by making me one of the poets,
whose poetry 'float into her boat'.

I Bear No Grudge With Yesterday

I bear no grudge with yesterday,
And all that peopled its terrain.
I bear no grudge with yesterday,
And all the aborted dreams of yesteryears.
Why should I spend endless years gazing at a mirage
Or the shifting shadow of an evaporated hope?
I bear no grudge with yesterday,
And all the fantasies of my youthful fervour.
Why should I build on the shaking ground
Of the fiery passion of youthful lust?
Yesterday is gone,
And all its hopes and doubts,
blunders and blessings,
pains and pleasures
Yesterday is gone,
Sweeping away all my stillborn dreams in its trail.
But I bear no grudge with yesterday,
For now is the dawn of a new hope,
A new fervour,
A new passion,
And the rebirth of a new dream.
I bear no grudge with yesterday,
Today awaits me with open arms
                                   (1/11/18)

Ode To the Unicorn

I wish you were my treasured gift,
I would have given you a golden kit,
to embellish your silver horn,
that always adore the golden morn.

Your gait, so lovely gauge,
as if it were some arts of a sage.
I watched in awe as you trotted pass,
the window pane of my dreamy glass.

You have struck me with your magical charm,
this I know will bring no harm.
Let me ride then on your fluffy back,
while you journey on a moon-lit track

Beam and Twist

Kind refreshing words,
like a soothing balm on wound,
make my long face beam.

sharp piercing words,
like great Esimuda's sword
twist my face to frown.

Esimuda was a legendary figure in my tribe's folktale. He was a warrior with a sharp two-edged sword.

A Grouchy Grouch

Once I saw an oddly grouchy grouch,
grousing away on an old couch,
gaping menacingly,
as I eat happily,
my juicy chicken soupy lunch.
