Where Creativity Blossoms

You look out the window and see a depressing landscape with short shrubs scattered across
a plain field of nothingness.

She looks out the same window and sees a vast space to run and play, with daring plants
that go where no plant has gone before.

You look at a busy sidewalk that is treacherous to even attempt to walk along.

She looks at the same busy sidewalk and sees an endeavor to do the near impossible but
enjoys every minute of it.

You look at a homework assignment and only think about the hours of research.

She looks at the same assignment and sees a new challenge to test her mind and she quickly
dives in.

You look at life and see a bleak mix of people coming and going, with nothing exciting but
the sleep you may get that night.

She looks at life and sees an adventure waiting for her everyday, with another chance to
bring color to people’s lives as well as her own.

She is where creativity blossoms.

Conflict

Fighting for that last chocolate chip cookie
Arguing over the doll you know is yours
Fighting for the front seat in the van
Arguing over who got more frosting on their cake.
Fighting for the allowance neither deserve but they give anyway
Arguing over who started it and who will finish it
Fighting over who saw that cute bag first and who will keep it
Arguing to keep the bag of chocolate she says was actually her’s
Fighting for the armrest in the car
Arguing with “Did not!” and “Did too!”
Fighting over the attention from the grownups.
Arguing over who is really older
Fighting over the CD player she says she has no idea where it went
Arguing and Fighting will never end but the love remains the same

Competition

Competition is there.
From Sports
Making that three point shot at the buzzer and winning, even though the other team
tried harder then they ever have before.
Making the touchdown to win the game, even though the other team hustled harder
	        than the winning team.
Making it to the finish line first, even though number two practiced so much harder
and was just a tenth of a second behind.

To School
Working for the part in the play and beating the better actor because they
		“Accidentally tripped.”
Working for the approval of a “Friend” who turns around and treats you like you
		were a nobody.
Working for scholarships and beating the person who needs it more, just
because it looks better on your already highly qualified résumé.

To Work
Achieving the high paying job and beating out the one who really needs the money
		more.
Achieving employee of the month, when the person who really did do the
		work is just forgotten.
Achieving the tasks that are looked highly upon and leaving others to do the dirty
		work.

To Life
Fighting to hang on with everything you have even when the doctors keep saying
		there’s nothing they can do.
Fighting to make yourself known, even though everyone is holding you back in one
		way or another.
Fighting to stay in your special place you’ve known all your life, even though
everything around you is changing dramatically.

Competition is there.
	It’s always there.

The Good Old Days

When were the Good Old Days?

Was it before we stopped to remember those who died that horrible sunny day of September
11, 2001?

Was it when subways and buses were safe and weren’t bombed twice in a just few short weeks?

Was it before countries started boasting about how they could blow the Earth up four times
instead of just three?

Was it when we could turn on the news without hearing about another soldier lost over seas?

Was it before we started worrying whether our schools were going to be bombed that day or
not?

Was it before we had to practice sniper drills at school because no one knows when someone
might want to come in and shoot the place up?

Was it when we didn’t have metal detectors in schools because some kids think it’s cool to
have a gun?

Was it when teens didn’t care about what you wore or what you believed in and accepted
their classmates for who they were and not who they wanted to be or were forced to be?

Was it before teens took their own lives because of the tortures their classmates at
school put them through?

Was it before we left our friends behind just because they said something wrong and didn’t
really mean it?

Was it before people gave up their newborn children because of the problems they may have
later on in life?

Was it before children were lost in the deep confines of the System and never quite made
it out?

Was it before teens threw bricks over bridges and shattered the lives of those they hit on
the street below?

Was it before people shot their siblings for just for a bag of ice they couldn’t get them
selves?

Was it before movie stars were charged for crimes they never should have committed in the
first place?

Was it when you didn’t have to worry about people stealing your identity and the rest of
your life with it?

Was it was when we could talk to people and know that when you turned around they wouldn’t
start whispering?

Was it when people stopped to help you up when you fell on a busy side walk of a busy street?

Was it when people didn’t care what color you were or where you were from or even what
your views on life were?

Was it before everyone cared about who you loved, whether it was right or not or if it was
in the Bible or not?

Was it when everyone was treated with respect no matter what they thought, cared about,
how much money they had, or even where the lived?

Did the Good Old Days ever exist?

Outcasts

They watch from
Their place in school.
No one notices.
No one cares.
They are alone
In the big world.
Watching life unfold.
Not experiencing for themselves.
Sad
Lonely
Misunderstood
They try to break through the glass
Separating them from
The rest of the world.
But it is unbreakable.
So they stand and watch.
Miserable
They are the outcasts.

Controlled

I am controlled
They control me
Like a puppeteer
They pull the strings
Like a dog
They whistle
I come
I have no freedom
I have no choice
A slave in my own home
I want freedom
I can see it
But I can’t feel it
I dream of it
But it does not come
So I obey
Sad
Helpless
Alone
And controlled

Love Hate and War

Love hurts
Friendship is hard
Peace never comes
Sorrow lingers on
Anger is a drug
War never ends
Good in the world
Will never stay long
And hope is diminished to nothing
All you want to do is cry
But even that is impossible
Because evil is disguised as good
And we fall for it every time

Life

Life goes on.
And you still smile.
Life is short.
But you can keep singing.
Life can be bad.
But you keep dancing.
Life can be the best.
So you cheer.
Life has love.
And you rejoice.
Life has heartbreaks.
But you keep loving.
Life takes twists and turns.
It goes places you may never expect it.
But you keep living.

Perfect Moments

She walked along the warm sandy beach
Cool summer wind blew softly through her fire red hair
It ruffled her baby blue sundress and blew sand around her feet
The waves softly tagged the beach then quickly fled
On the horizon sank a brilliant pool of yellow, orange, and pink
It slowly gave way to the mirror image that over took it
It cast vivid colors into the slowly darkening sky
Yellow, oranges, reds, purples, and blues danced across the clouds
She watched as the moon slowly rose above the glorious mountains
A duet day and night in one moment
Sun & Moon
Day & Night
Land & Water
Love & Hate
All in one perfect moment

Them

I walk with them
I experience life but they only dismiss it
I change my ways and they don’t notice
I fall and they walk on by
I talk and they ignore
I cry and they turn there backs
I hope and they destroy
I laugh and they make me angry
I do well but they have to do better
I feel myself falling and they only notice themselves
I want to scream but they silence me
I want to prove myself but they won’t let me
I want to do rise above but they chain me down
I put on a pretty smile and no one is the wiser
I have them fooled and they don’t even know
