Jit Lim Poem
Time
Nothingness in it belies
A continuum, uncanny
In all lives it defines
Love, hate, rage and litany
A motion on its own
Sweeping, inescapable
A yardstick mankind bemoans
Perpetual journey, irreversible
It’s life’s anathema
Yet it counts life
It’s a thing of enigma
That heaven had contrived
To it the mind ascribes
Its values and permanence
From these, it proscribes
Denying life’s resistance
Our minds’ affixed
To it we subordinate
Subservience afflicts
Our minds it subrogates
It obfuscates reality
Yet mortal minds believe
Its power and ability
We could not, but receive
In truth, it exists
Only in our minds
Its dwelling crevice
From where it unwinds
In consciousness, it’s framed
Weaved to life, togetherness
For all excuses, it’s claimed
Indistinguishable, oneness
But for consciousness
It would not exist
Nothingness, meaningless
Like a vanquished beast
What is this thing of enigma?
Given life by consciousness
Unfathomable, life’s anathema
Yet, treated with utmost seriousness
What is this thing of enigma?
Ephemeral, elusive
Ethereal like an Avatar
Too convoluted to perceive
It’s life’s inexplicable debt
But to consciousness it owes
Payable only by death
Yet its interest never grows
You and I we share this thing
Only in consciousness it’s sublime
But in death there would be nothing
Of this enigmatic thing called “Time”

Jit Lim Poem
Smart and Wise
He says she’s smart
She says he’s wise
Are they one of a part?
Or just talking in soliloquy
Em smart I am not
Bad choice of word
I am from the common lot
Just a little wayward
Em wise you can’t be
That makes two of us
I lost you and you lost me
Em uncanny impasse
“Smart” overly misused?
Or just misunderstood
“Wise” indiscriminately abused?
Or just a stupid gobbledygook
Two simple words
Pretentiously complex
But they are not that queer
Don’t be fooled or perplex
Those two words easy to say
But it sure hurts to hear
People use them everyday
With no clue or any idea
Ah, there you go again
Don’t agree with what I say
I tell you I am not insane
Don’t you understand; it’s so plain
Smart and wise
Two greatest taboo
Like triad and vice
They must be abhor
Smart and wise
Not words of truth
Both words encapsulate lies
Beguile and must be loathed
Smart and wise
They cause me much pain
I hope everyone will realize
And stop using them ever again

Jit Lim Poem
Does it really matter?
Love or lust
Which will last?
For a moment or forever
Does it really matter?
Joy or pain
Over and over again
Suffer alone or together
Does it really matter?
Sadness or happiness
Which one comes first?
Maybe now or later
Does it really matter?
Shame or pride
Take both in a stride
It’s now or never
Does it really matter?
Rich or poor
Both bad for sure
Gutter or alter
Does it really matter?
Still or in motion
Depends on the situation
Get a hold or falter
Does it really matter?
Ephemeral or permanent
Virtues and friendship forgotten
For worst or better
Does it really matter?
God or Godless
One should be selfless
Misfits or suitors
Does it really matter?
Dead or alive
We need first to survive
Jitters or glitters
Does it really matter?
In the beginning or end
What’s mankind’s intent?
God creates or mankind the creator
Does it really matter?

Jit Lim Poem
“I was inspired to write KNOW one evening when I was having dinner in my flat (alone of course) when I saw a phrase with an enlarged letter “KNOW” flashed on TV.
KNOW
Look around I hope you will see
Wherever, whoever you may be
Give and forgive and stop the blame
Don’t you KNOW we are all the same?
Here, there and everywhere
Untimely death everyday
Sadness and sorrow we create
Don’t you KNOW premature fate?
Time and time again
Greed makes us stake claims
Resist and detest come what may
Don’t you KNOW that’s what HE says?
Myth and mystery of the Almighty
Spawned countless deities
Buddhist, Hindu, Moslem or Christian
Don’t you KNOW it’s alright to question?
Day and night so predictable
The long road uncharitable
Where’s the stop or destiny?
Don’t you KNOW that’s a mystery?
Material world so adore
Never enough but more and more
Material world immaterial
Don’t you KNOW it’s superficial?
Gather around and say the prayers
Are you there we can’t wait forever
Patient my child says the priest
Don’t you KNOW you will be in the list?
What’s the difference to live or die?
The living pretends, dead don’t lie
Be true to yourself and all the rest
Don’t you KNOW that’s Divine’s test
Cultures, civilizations in tatter
Will this world get better?
Talks and negotiations supposedly civil
Don’t you KNOW we are the devils?
Children full of hope and promise
Time passes but none can insist
Future’s bleak, time unforgiving
Don’t you KNOW the pain of living?
Truth be told once and for all
Is there GOD to salvage our soul?
Show yourself and show us how
GOD, don’t you KNOW the time is now
Look around I hope you will find
Salvaged souls and remnants of time
In the scripture nothing is masked
If you don’t KNOW you are an ass

Jit Lim Poem
“This poem is dedicated to a Law School classmate
who left without knowing why. It was my cowardice
and selfishness that everything was left “in between””
In Between
It wasn’t a story
It wasn’t a tale
In between, sweet memories
Linger on and stay
It wasn’t profound
It wasn’t on the surface
In between, reticence abound
Face to face
It wasn’t courtship
It wasn’t acquaintance
In between, just friendship
Each keeps a distance
It wasn’t hot
It wasn’t cold
In between, steely hearts
Nothing unfold
Hope it wasn’t goodbye
But just a respite
In between, no words suffice
For any would deride
Wherever you may be
Hope time passes warm and calm
In between, parted by the sea
I longed for your open arms

Jit Lim Poem
Faraway Man
Somewhere distant an owl hoots
A crotchety crow sets the mood
Trees wave in howling wind
Beneath, rickety tombstones sing
Oh seraph, oh seraph wake us up
It is cold here in the dark
Oh seraph, oh seraph your promises
So soothing before
Hollow souls, unanswered prayers
Lying and waiting for the Savior
Despaired and betrayed
Above, the sky cold and grey
Is it epiphany?
Or faith uncanny

Jit Lim Poem
Those Words
Those words so piercing and moving
They crawled into your heart and mind
Brought back days sad and loving
Befuddled your present, time so unkind
Those words stayed in you like stimulants
You sat there immobilized, vanquished
Finally when sanity returned
Past become past, present no longer cherish
Those words spoken can be unkind
Those words spoken can be lies
Just tell me you will be fine
Seeing unspoken words in your eyes
Oh, those words I should have said
They got stuck in my heart
Oh, my reticence left you mad
And slowly we drifted apart
Those words you long to hear
Words of consciousness and mind
Believe in trust and you will see clear
Lasting trust like trust of mine
Those words can eat you up
Make you lost in your heart
In time you will find what it is like
Those words bring empty days and nights
