At the End of the Day

Is this my achievement?
This is not what I planned for
Clueless answers is all I seem to get
Darkness now lights the room of my thoughts

Everything I built now in smithereens
Broken pieces now left for me
Beauty faded away like memories
As ashes that are worthless to me

But I should have seen it coming
Where was the weak link that made it fall?
I was so confident because it was so tall
Never know so great a fall was coming

I wouldn’t build again, its point is lame
It is bound to leave the way it once came
Like eating just to get hungry again
Wasted effort lies at the end of the day

My Christmas Wish

Wish I can now see
All those faces that left me
To hear them say hi

My Lovely Dad

It’s with great difficulty I put my pen on this paper.
Struggling as to when and what to begin with.
Learning that life has its way of collapsing
Our paths down to one: unchangeable, inescapable.

A journey of a thousand miles they say begin on a day.
But I guess they forgot to add that the journey also ends on a day.
What day, none of us have a clue.
Reminding me we might not have as much time as we think.

With my dad’s unexpected exit, my greatest solace
Was in the life he led, the testimonies people shared,
The numerous lives he shaped and the legacy he left.
Everyone that had the privilege of knowing him could attest to this.
He life was more of never let anybody leave you without getting better.

My dad was, like he will usually say, perfect to a fault.
He was a man that always stood on his integrity.
Even when everybody decided to take the wrong turn,
He remained true to his cause.

He had a unique way of lightening the atmosphere.
And always had the right word to say for every moment
He also helped in calming the storms in so many a lives
So much that there were no more closing hours
As to when visitors came in and out of the house.

His humility reminded of the personality of Jesus.
Spat upon, bared any brunt but never twitched a muscle
Some mistook this for mere weakness
But in it I saw the greatest strength many can’t attain.

He was a loving, caring, quintessential and inspiring dad.
He always believed in me even when I didn’t find any cause to.
He would normally tell me “I know you can do better”.
This nudged me to where I am today.

My dad also was also a lover of God which showed in selfless service to him.
He has been very instrumental in blessing the lives of many, of whom am chief.
Many of his teachings remain indelible in my heart.
We are brethren, what will you be remembered for, saving for the reigning day,
Just to mention a few, keep guiding me through the spontaneities of life.

I can’t help but remember his addiction to education.
He is the one that brought out the pen in me.
Always more than willing till you have caught on.
His love for reading and teaching
Had no level pegging which leaves me with satisfied incompetence.

It’s sickening that I have to pen all he was to me in a few pages.
What of the gifts he gave me, the support he gave me
And the confidence I had just knowing I could fall back on him
Everyday had its unique and cherished story
Which book will be able to contain such a vast an experience
Just so painful such a journey had to end so soon.

When I consider the life after death
And the rewards that follow for every works done here
Am sure my dad is wreathing in smiles as he accepts his awards.
Giving me a joyous longing of being there one day

I have learned a lot from my dad’s life.
There are always those that will hate and be jealous of you, no matter how good you are.
There are those that will take pleasure on riding on you and would compel you to go a mile
But we should be prepared to go twain.
And the greatest life is a life of sacrifice.

Now I know that true success does not depend on the length of days.
Seeing the shoes my dad left behind just makes me scared.
Am so proud to be your son and I couldn’t have asked for any better.
I hope someday my feet would be worthy to fit in.
To me you are still very much around because you still live deep within my heart.

At the End of the Day

I needed a little book to have
Something to write my heart desires
So burning, my heart stopped being quiet
This was enough for my pen to start.

In less than two hours I poured it all out
Things I saw but I could not yet touch
Just on point, I had no second thought
Then decided to seal the book’s mouth

Assured, I waited on him that fails not
Him alone, all desires he can meet
But waiting is now longer than once thought
Some are still there that I may never reach

Staring at the book, as if it is now strange
Makes me wonder at the end of the day

I Knew I Was Right

Once knew, from a far, a lady dainty.
My heart raced in timid despair at
the
Thought faintest she were; time grew
a feet cold,
Wind became shy ere she walked by
my road.

'Tho heavy my heart so felt, our
fingers did
Oft kiss and lips moved at calm
ease; but the
Strength my frail heart found could
utter not it,
'Tho he saw signs to show alone he
wasn't.

Mimes read from her eyes was the
twine that held
My heart till distance took us part.
Silence
So loud spoke as eyes beam'd under
the cloud,
Till her bulb's light lit out and blew
so loud.

I knew I was right all this while from
signs,
But it turned a gall gulf too great in
time.

Spillingwillie: Two Heads Indeed Better Than One

I flipped through the pages of my brain
Hoping the words would spill out from the notes.
Although I didn’t know the letters to play
But once it pops up, I would surely know.

Ideas started dropping in dribs and drabs
But none could wet the ground of my desire.
Its sound I should know with a few playbacks.
All I heard shocked me, till I was tired

So I sought an extra head which I found
Full and small hence so light for my neck
Ideas now flowed ceaselessly as we ploughed
We came so close but could not get there yet

Finally out the blue now appeared
Spillingwillie, the name my blog now bears

A poem dedicated to my friend Onuh Dorcas without whom the name wouldn’t exist.. Hope you love it

Funny Face

Many features attract many together.
Lovely curve, a good front or any the eye can gather
Love I found in the face of my lady.
So smooth, ripples from its centre,
A perfect delight to behold from angle any.

Eyes glowing like sprightly stars
Emitting light that makes any soul stare.
Lips gliding with such perfect harmony
Revealing such a splendid virginity.
A spot on its left to single out hers from the rest.

‘Tis delight had no flaw but gave me only joy.
My ultimate awe came from the ball at the centre.
Quite round but extended with two smaller stems.
This ball was the epic of all expressions;
Twitching consciously with any change in tone.

It is the blessing divinity bestowed
For me the true state of things to know.
This ball always disclosed everything
And conceals not even the secret things.
No matter how hard the bearer tries.
Curves a bit upwards when sad,
Status quo when things were so,
Widens a bit when surprised. Tints a little pink,
When the heart becomes blue.
Such fun with all truth loved I the most.

Homeland

I long learnt right I was. Naked nudges
In my candid heart proved to lack proofs ‘nough.
To show what my soul and ears couldn’t ignore,
Went I all lengths. A futile future it forged.

I was then forced the bitter lie to accept
Everyone but me wanted to see. The
Hero returns after long in the hunter’s nest.
Shouts and lights flashed at the entry of him.

He did frustrate my hold but I couldn’t
Help my doubts and turned stealth. At time’s nick, he
Veiled his true veil yet was I ‘head a step.
His plans failed while I gently others scales swept.

A hero they say he was, I villain I saw.
I am the scorned cure to this virus now born.

Beautiful Lies

Dry tears flowing from our little eyes
That is the hearts way of bleeding when hurt
When it has asked too much of the why me,
Tears seem its only leeway left to turn.

Everyone knew our hearts were broken
Or at least that is what I made them believe
I can’t let the joy below to be known
Or how do you think they will see me

The traps was laid and meant to catch all of us
But luck smiled on me and I escaped it
With that look in their eyes, I took the fall
And told them we are together in it

Making them not to feel bad was the plan
What are friends meant for than to understand?

My First Poem

I thought as hard as I could
Of how I would my first poem begin
But this I knew
That once I put my pen to paper
Then I could write a full book

So I started to write
With my eyes moving from left to right
And a lot running through my mind
People will hate it
While some others, it will change their lives

But this again I knew
That behind the best lines are worst words too
I hope it would be given a fair trial
My heart couldn't hope for any better
And at the end, you would say
How I love to read this poem again

Book: Reflection on the Important Things
