i just want someone to hold me
someone to tell me "it's okay"
a hand to stoke my hair and to
touch my face, wipe my tears
i just want someone to hold me
someone who won't say "bad"
or "why did you do that?"
a soft lap, a warm body
i just want someone to hold me
tell me i'm special
that no one can hurt me
there is no one like me
i just want someone to hold me
to rock me in a gentle rhythm
sing of flowers and butterflies
show me how beautiful life can be
when it hurts so much to
be afraid of living
when sadness takes over
and all is gray
when i am so lonely
it is nothing
i just want someone
out there
every once in a while
to hold me

born was i
once
into a home that was lost
emptiness filled the void
where no one knew how to dance
food water shelter
that was all that was given
under the pretense of "love"
gone was the man to work...to drink
gone was the woman in her mind
gone was the boy in his own pity
someone said
i was "the apple of..." someone's eye
does that have meaning
was i to be consumed as an apple is eaten
food for eyes
explain man called dad
you know me not
woman called mother: guilt is her name
you taught me how to get beaten
and take it well
you taught me how to be a good girl
a slave
you taught me how to obey
do you hate that i think
is that why you never talked to me
is it the questions i ask
does my existence bother you
why
are you alive

it has often been said
blood is thicker than water
meaning
your blood born relates
are what counts
they are stuck with you
not in this day and age
at least not always
and yet,
aren't we all related by blood
sharing the original blood
of the earth
how have we lost the way of life
in which all things are a part

you are the most important one in your universe
without you, there is nothing
you are exquisite beyond belief
unique with a style all your own
i love you now

stop playing the victim

you work hard

you are worth more than all the money in the world
no one can take your place
i understand you
you are perfect
listen to these words
believe in yourself
believe in your worth
your opinions are real and important

and quite often right
you are no one's slave
you own yourself
i like you
keep growing
i know it hasn't been easy
as you understand it will get easier
