A Lilt For Archimedes

Oh Syracuse, Syracuse,
A bright star born to you.
This genius of three was touched by a muse.
Pi, levers, bringing a king great mirth;
With his brilliance this man moved the earth.

Oh goddess of the moon,
Indelible event!
Your festival doth give cause to swoon.
Circles, a shadow, slain dead in the sand;
A horror to mask even an enemy's land.

Of the Infinite

Mysterious, never ending
Is what we call infinity.
Mind-boggling, yet exciting;
A concept that disturbed serenity.

Considered a taboo,
Great minds it defeated.
Thinking it of divine understanding,
Even Galileo felt depleted.

Cantor argued its purpose,
Though that man's fate,
Sanity drained slowly,
Was decided by that sideways eight.

The integers and evens,
To name just two,
Are sets never ending.
Ever extending is the universe too.

No small idea,
And seemingly a paradox.
To consider this conundrum
Makes my head feel full of rocks.

Regrets

My Friend...
I felt protected by your side,
I knew comfort in your presence,
I found pride in your praise,
I understood wisdom in your ways.

Because...

You held me in your arms,
			You wiped away my tears,
				You taught me determination,
					You rejoiced in my success.

But...

		I fell...

You did not pick me up.

		I hurt...

You did not ease the pain.

		I cried...

You did not dry my eyes.

You told me it was for my own good.
You said you were protecting me.
You claimed to set up guiderails.
					You panicked.

Time relinquished its hold...

				I tried to understand...

							You said you were sorry...

Coping...

	Strain...

		Uneasiness...

			Where did you go?

					I miss you...

							...My Father.

Thoughts On a Sleepless Night

Like the flames of a candle,
Thoughts flicker through my head.
They keep me awake
As I lie on my bed.

I feel lost and confused.
They swarm like locusts.
Do they have meaning?
Or are they hocus pocus?

I'm tossing, I'm turning.
These visions bombard me.
I want to scream out,
"Enough! Flee far from me!"

I just want to rest.
My eyes feel heavy.
So I scribble these words down.
I think I'm finally ready.

My Daddy's Words

'Dear One, I love you
And want you to know
I'm here to support you
Through thick, high and low.
Fear not your mistakes.
They'll help you to grow.
When shame melts away,
Your wisdom will show.

Oh Beautiful Child,
So close to my heart,
Be not angry or shamed
By this crafty world's art.
So many are snagged
By that same piercing dart.
Be assured, in your growth,
This will play a part.

My Loved One, I thank you
For trusting in me.
Admitting your ere
I know isn't easy.
Through this difficult task
Your strength I can see.
If I could then I would
From your pain set you free.

I hate that you hurt.
I weep like the rain.
But without ere and trial
There would be no gain.
Perfection's ideal,
But it's scars we retain.
Successes come not
Without aches, bumps and pain.

My guidance to you,
Own up to your act.
Blame nothing and no one.
No integrity lack.
The storm will then clear.
On course you'll be back.
A little life's lesson
To keep you on track.'

These words he could've said
And shown wisdom in grace.
Instead he worried
For his own precious face.
He fretted that I
His image might debase.
And that, he determined,
Could not be the case.

He'd held me so long
As his golden prize.
Proud that I glittered
In our world's watching eyes.
But gold changed to rust
And stained his cursed pride.
Forgive me that I
To that view could not rise.

Daddy, I hope that one day
I'll look past all you said.
That I won't be afraid
To let you in my head.
I know that you're trying
To mend what was shred.
Forever I'll love you,
But the old bond is dead.

The Darkness Is Lulling

The darkness is lulling.
It enwraps me, enfolds me.
Sweet serenity humming,
"Come to me, come to me."
I slip slowly away.
I fade.

I silence time wanes;
It's ticking, it's slipping.
In tranquility I'm lain.
In a haze, out of phase,
I'm aware of my being.
I'm here.

The atmosphere's changing.
It's twisting, it's shifting.
My heart begins pounding,
Th-thumping, b-bumping.
I feel a strange presence.
I fear!

In a terror I'm gripped!
Chest tightening, constricting.
My room a gray crypt,
It traps me, ensnares me!
I sense a near specter.
I quake!

In silent panic I lie.
I'm frozen, so frightened!
By terror I'm bound!
Please, eyes, open! Please open!
I can't move! Not a limb!
...I wake.

Silence Is a Language

I see your muted struggle.
I wish that you'd find peace.
Release the pain you juggle.
This drama needs to cease.

My tears have solid frozen,
And words no longer flow.
For 'tis silence that I've chosen.
Wounds heal slow.

Most eloquent is that tongue.
Truth it reveals to each.
For words are but fabrications.
They lie through speech.

I'm beyond the desire to speak.
Though this do know,
For you my love is the highest peak.
But please...let go.

Barriers

Thoughts floating in my mouth;
Emotions stick to my tongue.
Would you hear my words anyway?
Silence remains.

Less Human Than Thy

I'm trying to love you.
I'm trying to help you.
I'm trying to see through your eyes.
But I can't understand you.
I cannot feel for you.
So am I less human than thy?

You make deep confession,
Admit your depression.
Emotions well up in your eyes.
I want to console you
But think follies control you.
So am I less human than thy?

You tell me you love me,
Your heart pour forth for me.
To a puddle you melt 'fore my eyes.
I say we've been through this.
I just cannot do this.
So am I less human than thy?

You want to talk to me,
And not to look through me.
You wish that I'd see through your eyes.
But my patience is peaking.
I'm done with the speaking.
So am I less human than thy?

Out there you are starving,
A life barely carving.
You plead with your desolate eyes.
But I'd rather not look.
I'll just hide in my nook.
I guess I'm less human than thy.
