Poets Despair

I despair at writing poetry
I'm not sure I have the skill
Just can't seem to find the words
Or bend them to my will

It's hard to sum up what I mean
And make it sound succinct
So as a poet should I stop
And quietly go extinct?

Should I lay my pen to rest
And let it gather dust?
But something seems to urge me on
To write is now a must!

So putting pen to paper
I'll scribble just for fun
And maybe one day very soon
A poet I'll become!

Lonely Tear

Glistening symbol of my pain
this lonely tear. You wet my cheek.
As a smile I try to feign,
unable now of joy to speak.

This lonely tear you wet my cheek
hinting at things not shared.
Unable now of joy to speak;
feeling so lost and scared.

Hinting at things not shared
into the shadows I fear, I've tumbled
feeling so lost and scared.
My pain you make me ache and stumble.

Into the shadows I fear I've tumbled,
and all I see is black.
My pain you make me ache, and stumble
as strength I seem to lack.

And all I see is black.
By this grief I have been swallowed.
As strength I seem to lack,
and by rain forever followed.

By this grief I have been swallowed,
as a smile I try to feign.
And by rain forever followed,
glistening, symbol of my pain.

A Piece of Dream

I look behind to see my dream has shattered
into a million pieces on the floor
I knew that this was going to happen
but didn't know it would hurt much more

It was the only way this dream should end
it wasn't one that had a hope
it's better off in a million pieces
I'm just not sure how to cope

I know that I must now recover
and learn to build my dreams again
I just need to build them better
and make them those I can attain

I know the hurting will continue
for a time at least
but from my dream that lies here shattered
I'll take from it one piece

It's something that I'll carry forward
into my new dream I must take
for it's the thought of possibilities
this piece of dream did wake

But it's the image my dream created
is that which hurts the more
I think it's this that lies in tatters
strewn across the floor.

I Grieve a Dream

You are the tear that follows me
the ache within my soul
the bitter-sweet that sings to me
my heart you came and stole

You are a dream beyond my reach
a wish I can not touch
it breaks my heart to be so close
for I love you far too much

You are a kiss I can't make real
a whisper never spoken
a cherished thought that stays asleep
a smile lying broken

You are the one I can not have
no matter how it pains
my dream for which I sit and grieve
a shadow that remains

You are the sun that has to set
our time just couldn't last
I need to wait for the dawn to break
while I mourn for is past.

1 Corithians 13

Love is always patient
in deed and word is kind
can not abide the green eyed monster
so envy will not find.

It never tries to gloat or brag
it can not be malicious
does not demand to have it's way
is never once suspicious.

Is always calm when under pressure
can't laugh when others stumble
doesn't try to tally wrongs
wont quit, complain or mumble

It always to the future looks
is positive, fair and just
ever eager to find the best
in others wants to trust.

It never fails when hardships hit
keeps fast to what is true
when all else seems to fall apart
true love sees us through.

Raindrops Fall

Raindrops now escape the clouds
and downwards they do fly.
Earthbound now their journey starts,
set free from blackened sky.

Let loose they dance upon the ground
and skip as if at play,
a melody they seem to hum,
music, natures way.

Into rivers, brooks and streams
each raindrop heads like home,
and over waterfalls they rush,
into oceans seek to roam.

They call to clouds for brethren rain
to fall and learn to fly,
to start a journey homeward bound,
and escape their blackened sky.

Farewell To Her

I grieve a life that can't exist
for things that could not be
of cherished plans that upped and left
of a girl no longer me

I grieve my dreams that slumber on
that I can not wake from sleep
and as another does drift away
for it's emptiness I weep

I mourn the loss of who I was
of possibilities and more
and wave farewell to a life not had
as she walks out through the door

I sit and ache for what is not
for the girl that can't be me
of things that only might have been
for the she that can not be.

The Moon

As I sit here in the dark
and gaze upon the moon,
I know her journey through the sky
is over much too soon.

As she travels through the night
a trail of stars awaken,
but as she rises to her glory
her time is all but taken.

She never falters from her course,
is always straight and true,
and from this goddess of the skies
all others take their cue.

As she goes upon her way
she leaves her special mark,
and looks just like a precious jewel
against the midnight dark.

She weaves her special magic,
casts a spell on everyone,
and touches every heart she reaches
before her journey's done.

But just before she disappears,
into the velvet deep,
she smiles down on mortal man
and whispers him from sleep.

Lifes Rut

Deja Vu we're here again
This well worn path we tread
It's the one that moves in circles
Why can't we go in squares instead?

We cover ground we've trod before
But never really move
We find it hard to alter course
So we slot back in our groove.

We know this path so off by heart
We could do it in our sleep
One foot in front the other
Going round and round we keep

It's hard to climb out of our rut
Looking for escape we sigh
We wish that we could sprout some wings
From this cycle we would fly

So here we are now barely moving
And stagnant we will stay
When all the while a different path
Was just a step away.
