Forever and Fire Alarms

Forever is a word I long to believe,
Left alone in ashes, alone to grieve.
So many have left us deceived,
With promises empty, never achieved…

To trust that word is to cling to hope,
Yet sometimes it feels more like cope,
A dream never fulfilled
Hearts waiting to be rebuilt

How can we trust a spoken vow,
When words become a chorus somehow,
A weight we bear, a silent thrall,
A comfort until misfortune befalls?

Forever destined to wander and wonder,
When it breaks, it crashes like thunder.
Is such pain worth a single word?
Or just another lie we’ve heard?

Forever, a promise broken many a time,
Can one trust it again, or is that a crime?
We long, more than anything, to believe,
Yet why is it so hard to truly perceive?

Forever is a shackle,
Forever is a chain,
Forever is a vow,
Forever is a home

When they say that word
Would it be absurd to believe?
Yet love makes people absurd
Absurd enough to believe in forever.

You promise me forever and leave
For one now grieves something that has not died
Yet I fear that will be short-lived
We, who once thrived
Now are in shambles
Feeling more as a series of gambles

One will never be the same
You are now one’s chain
Had once made my heart ignite
One is now left in contrite

The pure cruelty of this planet
Destined never to touch a racket
Must one’s life be so utterly torturous
One was quite virtuous
Yet life had to extinguish such innocence.

How gullible one must be to believe?
How does one not seem credible?
“Swear on me… now I’m dead”
Is one worth that little trust?
Was it all just lust?

Then they ask why one questions the credibility
None of them has shown authenticity
For to them, it is just a fling
Yet I am the one to cling to the hope,
It means everything to them as it does to I
Oh, how it stings when it doesn’t.

Forever is a shackle, meant to trap one
Forever is a chain, meant to control you
Forever is a vow, a shallow, cruel vow
Forever is a home, slowly crumbling down into flames.

For I am absurd.
One longs to believe in forever
But after one’s home has been burnt down time and time again
You don’t want a home.
That’s not me giving up on love.
That’s me protecting myself after the fire alarms failed too many times.

Paradise

Paradise.
What is paradise?
The picture-perfect place?
Perfect house, perfect car, perfect partner
Is that what you picture when you picture paradise?
Paradise
Everlasting sunlight and spring flowers
Dresses, hats, and sunglasses
On a sunny day with a long beach
Cold ocean and sand castles
But waves stop crashing
Sand castles get destroyed
and flowers wilt
Perfection
Yet even the sun sets in paradise
And the boat has to leave
Illusion of perfection and forever
Forever doesn’t always work
Perfection wasn’t always perfect
and that’s okay
cause a different forever will
always find its way to you
just not your intended perfection
Paradise.
Paradise is a car that you can drive
in a color you enjoy
Paradise is a house that’s a home
Walls painted your favorite color
Paradise is trying not to laugh while
everyone pretends they’re working
Paradise is hurting someone
but learning from it
Paradise is inside jokes and
happy moments with your partner
Maybe your dream was simpler
and more ordinary than you thought,
Paradise

The Everlasting Performance

A girl
A mask
A stage
A curtain
A performance
An audience
Showtime.
A girl.
Forced, stuck, suffering
A mask.
So well built, you’ll never see reality.
The pure. Raw. Emotion.
A stage
You see the smiling.
The laughter.
The confidence.
A curtain.
When the curtain closes
You don’t see the pain.
The suffering behind the curtain
A performance
Lasting forever
An audience.
The world.
“The world is my audience
The stage is my cage
This mask is to last
When the curtain falls
The mask falls along with it.
A performance, My performance.
My cage
My mask
My shackles to this hell
My audience to entertain
My performance.
Where the curtain comes down but never forever
Alas I deserve this.
For the sinner, the curtain call has come
I know i may not sound it but faced with death, I find myself a little afraid.
My performance, everlasting
My everlasting performance
The everlasting performance”

I yearn

I yearn
Oh how i yearn
For the longing stares across the classroom
For the jackets that don’t belong to me
For the long nights cuddled on the sofa
For the winter mornings with hot cocoa
For the evening sunsets with ice cream
For the fall walks, laughing and holding hands
For the spring afternoons with water guns and smiles on our faces
For your scent in the air
For the nights spent late watching anime
For the mornings waking up to each other
For the dancing in the rain
For the snowmen in the snow
For your head on my lap
For my hands in your hair
For cold fingers intertwined beneath sleeves
For the hugs that make the world quieter
For the kisses that taste like melted ice cream
For everything
For everything I define a permanent home
For a place we can put our baggage
I yearn
Oh how I yearn
But dare I say it
For at the end of the day
Yearning it is too much
For someone so young
You’re too young to yearn
Or they’ll tell you you are
Never yearn
For when you do
They’ll tell you not to
Yearn for grades
They say
Never a home

Poetry

Poetry is words you can’t quite say yet
Poetry is processing your emotions
Poetry is 30 places on one page
Hundreds of emotions on one line
Poetry is the only way I can ask for help
Poetry is a language
Why is it that no one understands my language?
Can I call myself a poet?
I am a poet.
Poetry is my love language
Poetry is my language
I’m speaking in color
Everyone's so used to speaking in black and white
Poetry is more than words
Poetry is a part of our souls, we put out there
A part of our souls we don’t know how to express
So we put part of our souls into words
We’re the people who take the invisible thing and make it visible
We’re the people who put images in words
Emotions in phrases meant to sound normal
Words we use to see
Words we use to hear
Poetry is soul
Everyone sees the dark and adds light
We see the dark and make the dark beautiful
We see the light and make the light beautiful
We see what they call ugly and put it’s beauty into words
Maybe some people who refuse to see beauty in our words
Their loss
They lose the chance to put soul into something
But poetry it’s also a bridge.
And bridges can feel lonely when you’re the only one walking across them.
We help those who want to see beauty in words
Our language isn’t a sealed room.
It’s more like a shoreline at night
Some people only see waves at first,
But others learn to notice the patterns in the tide.
Some refuse
Others don’t
Either way, it is soul

Donate, Recycle, Garbage or Keep

Vaccuming every
inch of yourself
They vacuumed
everything
Every inch they
think is
dirt
Vaccum it all up and
throw it in the trash
Watch it all go in the garbage
Watch as they
threw away
Every part of you you
spent years building
Gone because they think it was
never good enough
Cleaning a room you
took so long to decorate
They
Vaccum it all up
Put everything in
boxes and bags
Throw it in the
donate pile
Donate the very thing that makes
you, you
to someone else
Let it get
recycled
Maybe
someone else can
fix it
Someone else can
have it
Maybe they won’t be
judged and
hurt
That’s fine
You aren’t
you anymore
You’re in
garbage bags
and boxes labeled
donate
You’re just
the vessel
You, were the person who
they
donated
and threw away
The keep pile
Is as empty
As your heart
After you let them
Throw
Away
Everything that made
You, you.
All cause you let them
control you

Bittersweet Endings

The sunset was beautiful
because it happened
not because it was permanent

I do not resent the sunset
for it has left my sky

I do not resent the stars
as they shine too bright

You were a chapter
A place I called home
A melody I learned to love
A smile I know by heart

I hope someday
you don’t run away
when the sun starts to set
and the night creeps in

I hope you will not
rely on a temporary sunset
to provide you joy
for the rest of your life

I hope someday
someone sits beside you
under a sky painted red
and breaks the walls
you worked so hard to build

I hope she sees the parts
you were afraid to show

I hope she understands you
the way I never could

I hope you laugh more
I hope you smile more
I hope you trust more
I hope you live more
I hope you love more

and I hope I can too.

Red

Red
The sky was red
Beautiful strokes of orange
Mesmerizing streaks of purple
Sky fading away into blue
That’s the day I knew
I want a person
Who can enjoy this sky with me
Looked quite like a painting
Of an artist who didn’t feel like trying anymore
Simply put paint on a canvas
WIth a brush they had no will to hold any longer
Maybe they were tired
I’m tired too
Of not having someone to share
This ineffable view with
I want a person
To walk hand in hand down these roads with
fall leaves crunching beneath us
Sit on a bench and talk for hours about
what the best chocolate is with
Go to a park and stargaze and
sing terribly with
To listen to the raindrops on the road
while taking a walk with
To call when everything is painful
To be the first person to text about an award
or because of a spider
The sky becomes quieter
and I hear a melody
It’s a mournful goodbye
As the paint washes away
and the night sky swallows the canvas
I realize
All good things come to an end
Even the sun sets in paradise
Sparkles of white coat the night sky
Sometimes forever isn’t guaranteed
That’s okay
The memory stays with you
The endless darkness of the night sky
But don’t ever forget
Red
The sky was red
