Blur the line

You open your mouth
And my breath comes out
My heart spilled on your chest
I know what happens next
Fingers intertwine
I’ll let you blur the line
As our souls collide
You are me and mine

It’s destiny, magnetic force
It’s only natural, I got no choice
It’s co regulation, a chemical bond
I’m tied up, and down, there’s no way around
If there’s no one to hear it, it still makes a sound

In the dead of night
There’s no black and white
No me and you
No wrong or right
I’m scared of my pen like I was born to write
That we’re two halves
Of a different whole
Trauma bond, alcohol
Dependency and Tylenol
Spin in a circle cause the daze gets me high
Truths and a lie
We’re getting by,
year by moment
wipe your tears on my chest
I know what happens next

Unspoken Intimacies

You cup my face, and ease my mind
You sway my hips and make me rhyme
You contradict my silent death
And dissolve my selfish pride

New skin

I look up at the sky and wish we lived in a perfect world.
No war, no loss, no suffering, no heartbreak
No cares, no conflict.
Nothing to fight for and nothing to lose
This concept is a safe place, a tear in time and space
Does such a place exist outside of my own head?

Would I trade away my freedom, for the promise of harmony?
“You see, our only choice for defeating evil is taking away your choice for good”
Would it be an act of mercy, or a strategic display of cruelty,
 grounds for more?
You think fighting for your life is tough? Try having nothing to live for.

I'm ready to feel, even if it makes me unpredictable
I’m ready to take chances, even if I might lose
I'm ready to envy, and see others get what I want, to know that whats mine is truly my own
I am willing to fall behind for the chance to get ahead
And I believe the truth is worth hurting for

We live in a perfectly imperfect world, you fall and you bruise
you play with fire and you get burned.
But then your skin becomes new, and you start to heal
And you know you're free,
Because you can feel

Swallow your confessions, neither boys nor teachers like running sentences

What if I write you an 8 page sonnet
And when I see you
We talk about the weather
The burdens of bureaucracy, and the colors of fall

You love the orange and I love that the piles of leaves are pillows of the living dead that I plow into
And puddles are piles of recycled tears that I cry into
But I’ll say I love orange
Because neither boys nor teachers like running sentences

Moon Talk

The room reeks of lilac and sin
The bottle cracks,
and I breath you in
You fog up my vision
And sweeten the day
I hold you tighter at night
And we whisper ‘stay’

Perfumed thighs
Tell me pretty lies
Kisses on each side
Line a pathway

You linger on my skin like rain on stone
We protect each other like skin to bone

The Man of the Fields

He was kind and empty
He had no breakfast, no diploma, and no direction
He had no recognizable achievements but a certain poetry in his manner of talking
He desired no ownership or property beyond that damn guitar
He liked sleeping in the strawberry fields under the sun because home got too far to walk back to
He liked kissing beautiful girls
He liked making himself hurt just to feel something
Sometimes he felt so much it became nothing at all

He was a sad person, and if he resonated with you a little too much, a little too long, a little too deep
He would make you sad too
But not violently sad, beautifully sad
The kind of sad that still allows for occasional glimmers of something new- a melancholic hope
A flighty hope, but it was real
And it would make him feel something

So if you find him somewhere, wrapped in a blanket
Giving you a crooked, nostalgic smile
And he tells you he’s up for anything,
And he tells you that you don’t know how to live in the moment
And he tells you he can teach you
Reeking of substance and wasted talent
And whistling a song that haunts you

He’ll breath you in. Tell you he smelled your new conditioner and compassionate intentions from a mile away.
Let his eyes pierce through you for a moment, and it will give him comfort
And it will dilute your joy and make you feel momentarily alive

Remember the beauty of empty shells that have a little depth to them
Hold him gently like a wounded bird, and nurse him back to health, and peel away his layers until you get to the good part.
He’ll disarm you and make you feel special.
You’ll remind him that he’s real.
And if you get too sad
Tell him you wish him the best and that you’ll come by some other time
And you’ll ask where to find him
And he’ll have no answers
No answers, no breakfast, and no recognizable achievements

A Numbing Necessity

They asked us
In the absence of screens,
To dim your conscience, pains, and dreams
Would you resort to panicked screams?
Or would the quiet be obscene

A Fly On the Wall

Obnoxious and undiscerning
Teeming with power, devoid of meaning
intelligent-passing and ethical-seeming

‘Our only choice for defeating evil is taking away your choice for Good.’
Good with slogans
Good with words
Misconstrued, misused, misheard

As their reverberant declarations overtake stifled, dying cries
I mumble into the abyss
And regurgitate the whispers of the night
And I remain,
the fly on the wall

If You’re a Bird, I’m a Bird

If you shrink to compactness, I’ll put you in my pocket
If you grow big and towering, I’ll climb into your sleeve

If you whisper gently, I’ll lean in close, intently
And close I will stay
A whisper away

Because you are me
and I am you
And whatever you name me
I will answer to
And if you can fly
I can too
If you’re a bird, I’m a bird

Blessed are those who Hunger

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
Day in day out
My dry mouth awaits
A drop of nourishment
An awakening of the soul
A satisfaction that fills
The emptiness of the stomach
And day in day out
I develop a truth deficiency

And there one night, I found a source of truth
And the nourishment flows
Vitamins into my body
And the blood never runs dry
And wonders never cease
And life, and truth, and righteousness
Corse through my veins
And love fills the pit in my stomach
Jesus sits where the emptiness used to be
I am whole, and free, and nourished
Day in day out
I come home
And am blanketed in love
I have found what I longed for
What I have sought and not labored for
