Dreams

I always thought I’d grow up to find that one special someone 

The one who I would love unconditionally and whom would do the same in return 

I always thought I’d grow up to eventually get married and have my parents there and my father be the one to give me away at the altar 

It took me years to realize it was all dreams and hopes of a person who will never achieve them 

The idea of this fantasy feels like worlds away 

I now may never be able to marry the one I love 

My father will never be able to smile and happily give me away at the altar 

My lover will never get to know my father for he is of a different time 

A time where my lover and I were forbidden 

I always thought I’d grow up to get married to the one I love 

I will get married to my lover even if it is only ever in my dreams
